Stoke Away Travel

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Stoke Away Travel

Post by gp543 »

I'm among the masses travelling up to Stoke in 10 days time. I've read the previous threads and booked my train but still have a couple questions.

A. Colors. Yes or no? Opinion seemed pretty split in the previous threads.

B. Do the police still herd us to a pub straight off the train?

C. How quickly can one get to the rail station after the match? Return train is at 1812.

Thanks. Send a PM if you'll be on the 1100 from Euston. Never had a proper away trip (Orient doesn't really count)

yes wear your colours its unlikely that you will ever be more than 10 foot from the police presence
B. Do the police still herd us to a pub straight off the train?
yes but if not the coaches and police will still be at the station to take you directly to the away end
C. How quickly can one get to the rail station after the match? Return train is at 1812.
the police will get us back to the station to meet the 17.50 and 18.12 trains back to London

Thanks. Send a PM if you'll be on the 1100 from Euston. Never had a proper away trip (Orient doesn't really count)
Have a great day

To go away to Stoke, the best way to get there is by time machine as it's like going back about 30 years.

Colours? Yeah, it's fine. You might get a few insults from the local inbreds but it's not the Balkans, you're not gonna get the shit kicked out of you & left in a ditch.

Have been there 4 times & never once got caught up by the police from the station. Even easier to cruise past if you cover up any colours.

Getting to/from the stadium... If you don't mind walking, it's about 20 mins along the canal. Come out of the station, do a right & then another right under the railway bridge. Head straight for 2 mins & you'll see the canal down to your left. Get down onto the path & walk in the direction heading away from the station. Takes me 15/20 mins - i'm a reasonably quick walker but not that fast. After 20 odd mins you'll see the stadium across the canal on your left & a footbridge that will dump you out by the away end when you cross it. Then do the reverse to get back after the game. Usually much quicker than the busses, taxis etc as the Britannia is one of those shitty stadiums in a retail park, it's rammo after the game & a nightmare for vehicles to get back out onto the main roads...

Allow extra time for Orc-based disruption if your train goes through the Mines of Moria.

Have a good one though, love away trips although haven't been on one for a while. I'm from Cardiff but I've been up in Nottingham for 4 and a half years - in that time we've not played in the East Midlands once and I've missed the game in Cardiff this year. I'm moving back in September and it looks like Cardiff are likely to get relegated, meanwhile Leicester are a banker for promotion with Derby and Forest both in play-offs with an 8-point buffer over 7th place :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Yet to go on a worse away trip than Stoke. There's absolutely nothing in the town and that's no exaggeration.

The fact that the locals are perhaps the last remaining colony of a species of proto-human doesn't exactly help either.

Haven't been in Stoke in years. Do they still sacrifice a child in the town square everytime a jet flies over? :rubchin:

Went a couple of seasons back (lost 3v1 :( ) and off the train we were herded to the local Uni bar, then buses were laid on that took us to the ground and back to the station after the game...

Stoke has a Uni

Can you study the history of Orcs, or indeed how to 'not be that type of player'

Herding is what they do. Saturday night they herd the local cattle/sheep/goats into the town square and a big old truck from Durex drives in and distributes condoms to the rabid hord of gathered salivating locals, cocks in hand... and that's just the women!!
