Liam Brady To Step Down/Joncker In

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

that's a bit unfair. gibbs and wilshere came up the ranks and not his fault wenger doesn't give the british youth too much of a chance at arsenal.

Along with JET, Randall and countless others who barely make it at championship or league 2 level. I think on the whole our youth team % rate of players that 'make it' is shocking

Deserves plaudits.

Took over when Graham had put youth development as a low priority.

Cole, Gibbs and Wilshere all regular first teamers is a fair return in purely football terms considering the position the youth academy was in when Brady took over, if you consider that many others have gone on to make careers in football at Premiership and other levels.

No idea how the finances of the academy are though; transfer fees received have to be offset by development costs which are hard to calculate.

So you are saying that after the Arsenal quality youth team we had in the 80s turned the club into Champions, Graham decided that we would not bother with youth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand that, but its a wider problem imho Flash.

who signs these kids to professional contracts ? - who then plays them in the reserves/U-21's now, and who promotes them to the first team ?

Brady, Banfield and AW all have to be culpable for a system where Johan Djourou is due for a testimonial this year for 10 years of professional service.

WTF ! - someone should have looked at him, said he'd never make it, or give him a 2 year deal then sell him.

Sounds like Brady is unhappy with something at the club and this has prompted his retirement :rubchin:

So much so that he's going to stick around to help find his replacement and "remain at the club in some role"? :?
