Financial Fair Play(FFP)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Anyone with a brain could see it was gonna make no difference, yet Ivan/Wenger and co were heralding it as our saviour that would see us reclaim our place at the top of the game.

As is so often the case with AFC these days it was just more lies, spin and bullshit.

The rules are bedding in, so always unlikely that any club was going to be barred for a first offence... Fingers crossed that they at least rule that Citeh can't include the inflated sponsorship as income. But if they simply get fined but allowed to continue with the sharp practice then it makes the whole FFP thing a waste of time (albeit that's what most people thought would end up happening in the first place!).

If Eithad are saying they are paying 500 billion a year to sponsor the cones at City's training ground then I'm not sure what FIFA can do about it.

Really no surprise. Fifa and uefa are a organisations that are weak and fear the loss of their big name. Imagine if they had to ban real Madrid, Barcelona, psg, Man utd(..ahem!!) from the champions league? They cannot even uphold a transfer ban on Barcelona as they are too scared of the repurcussions. It should now be a case of gloves off and bring in Usmanov and the money he wants to plow into the club. If you can't beat them join them...fuck integrity and ethics...it's business.

Wenger is a wannabe economist. He is heralded as an authoritative voice on football finance but the reality is that his economic qualifications amount to a degree. I have a few mates with economic degrees from good universities and they can barely organise paying monthly direct debits, I certainly wouldn't hold them out to be oracles.

For over half a decade he has smugly proclaimed that football cannot exist in a bubble, that the recession would hit football clubs, that the walls would come crumbling down at these clubs as their foolhardy spending saw them bankrupt. He's built his philosophy around that economic outlook and it's absolute fucking bollocks. It has been proved catastrophically wrong.

Drives me insane when I hear people defending him because he can "read a balance sheet". Frankly I don't give a fuck and I don't want him anywhere near that side of things. No successful manager before needed to be able to read a balance sheet.

The only people who ever had any interest in FFP was Arsene & Gazidis. The rest of the world couldn't give a shit!

they are NOT going to do anything that makes them lose sponsorship, shirt and ticket sales.

FIFA and UEFA run football to make money for themselves. simple as.

anyone who thinks otherwise is Delusional - even the PL chief said United not winning the PL is bad for PL finances.

FFP is a joke, the only way to implement it would be US style with Salary Caps and Luxury Taxes, and do away with transfer fees.

I do wonder about us, Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs considering joint legal action against City?
There was that joint letter of complaint in January 2013, it shows that these things are discussed.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blo ... -fair-play

It is also not impossible that their would be grumblings against UEFA and FIFA, and these and other similar overseas clubs discuss how they might threaten to breakaway to try and force Financial Fair Play action.

UEFA have spent millions trying to implement and administer the impossible.

There will not be a single ban handed out to any of the major offenders like City, PSG or Real Madrid.

That €100k fine is really gonna hurt

What a shock - anyone with a greater mental capacity than a peanut called this years ago
