Extra Time
Extra Time
After watching the champions league over the wkd. My heart went out to athetico as they really fought hard but came up short as its happened to many a team
Does anyone think we should have 90 Mins and thats it like they do in the rugby granted they have 80 mins but there format once the time is up once the ball is dead game over ..
Then Extra time is the scores are the same

Re: Extra Time
Why do people constantly compare football to towel flicking as if we can learn sooooo much from the "sport" of fat blokes rubbing off each other?
Fuck that. The rules of towel flicking are one of the reasons it's so fucking boring.
If we played a flat 90 no injury time, you'd have diving cheating bastards like Stevie Me and GrannyShagger lying down feigning injury for 10 minutes at a time if they were winning.

Re: Extra Time
There are so many things football could take from rugby..eye gouging, fake blood, biting , stamping, ....Why oh why can anyone use the words sport and rugby in the same sentence.?..latest spin on that non sport I heard is "the honesty of the players make it a great game "..In football injury time is there to keep a check on time wasters..it usually happens when a team are hanging on and they want to break up momentum of their opponents. The introduction of the board a few years back was a great idea as now there is transparency to a degree.. Remember the 1993 FA Cup Semi Final v Spuds, even John Motson on commentary was baffled as to why the game was going on so long and when it was going to end.

Re: Extra Time
So when someone is injured/subbed/time wasting you completely over look it and not add that time back on?
Yeah good idea
Its a shame teams fall right at the death but injury time isn't a controversial issue. If it was "Fergie time" then by all means complain but why oh why contest a system which has done fine for years?

Re: Extra Time
The extra time is great, you cant remember the time when bad time wasting went on, not that its much better now, but at lest there is an allowed allocated time for substitutions, as well as "injuries" to get a breather.
Means the fans actually get a bit longer so they can leave over a staggered length of time thereby avoiding the latte queue at the final whistle.
Does anyone remember Clive Thomas (I think) whistling for the end of a game in the WC just as the Brazillin shot was heading for the goal

If you look up "rugby" in the dictionary I believe you will find the above definition more or less word for word.Perryashburtongroves wrote:Rugby is a game for wankers and closet homosexuals.

Re: Extra Time
Extra time and penalties works well.
I liked the "Silver Goal" idea whereby if one team was ahead at the half time of extra time then there was no second period of extra time and they won, but it never caught on.
Golden Goal did not work for me, teams just went defensive.

Re: Extra Time
Firstly I vaguely wanted Gareth Bale and Pretty boy Ronaldo's to lose but not enough to watch it,I loathe spanish football and the team,s therein.
Secondly there is far too much crossover supporting twats infesting rugby and football nowadays.
I used to play for Blackheath at Rugby and was offered to go play for Harlequins when I was 19 but had to make a
choice,so Rugby got binned and a life on the Arsenal Beano was cracked on !
Never regretted a second of it !
