ManU 750m ten year kit deal

Post by cameron326 »

Man UTD set to sign 75 m a year deal with Adidas, dwarfing our 30m with Puma.

So that's 45m head start they've got on us minimum right there for each of the next five seasons.

Did we sell too cheaply or are we really that far behind?

Just noticed that actually our deal is in the same ball park as the likes of Liverpool, Madrid and Barca ( although doubtlessly the latter will be negotiating if her values next time).

So how the hell do Man Utd get that kind of deal going forward ? Clearly no longer favoured as the top dogs in English football over the next decade, 5/1 with the bookies for next season, not much better than us!

Completely absurd for a club outside the CL. I know UTD has a big fan base but Real Madrid is no 1 around the world by some distance.

Arsenal have got a very solid commercial platform but United are a global behemoth. Like it or not when it comes to brand value they are right up there with Madrid above Barcelona and everyone else. We are not even nearly within touching distance, and a few seasons off the top won't change that.

Also it's just a continuation of the recent trend of sponsorship deals. Spurs and Liverpool massively increased kit revenues, then we did when our deal was up, now it's United's. Kit manufacturers are so desperate not to get left out and with American firms muscling in it's driving the price up.

Honestly my guess is that Man U have a much, much larger fan base in Asia and North America and Adidas knows how the popularity of the EPL is growing rapidly over here and they're getting ahead of the curve.

we need to be realistic,

utd are a huge club, much bigger than us, and recent success...
No doubt when Barca and Madrid come to renegotiate they may well exceed that.

For where we are as a club, the deal we signed was pretty good for us I believe. The biggest kit deal in UK history when it was signed, did people really think that would forever be the case? Of course it was gonna be eclipsed when Utd's turn came around for a new kit deal.

Even being out of the CL for one season, they're a much bigger global brand than we are. Start buying quality players on a consistent basis, put some more silverware in the cabinet & maybe a few years down the line we can start pulling in bigger figures for deals like that...

If I was Marketing Director of Adidas I'd write in performance criteria. No CL = less money. I'm sure there must be something in the contract.

Our deal looks in line with most bigger clubs now so I dont think Uniteds deal makes ours bad, they are on a different level and we all know this.

One thing I read though (not sure how right it is) is that Puma sponsor us 30m and we can earn from our own kits etc so we can make our own profit from our own fan base while United get 75m a year but Adidas make all the profit.

I could be wrong but I read something along those lines.

We have one big advantage over them named LONDON. Foreign players want to live in Landaaan not grim old Manchester.

Whilst the London factor is an attraction for some players, not everybody is put off by the idea of a mansion in Cheshire rather than a busy city which they can't really enjoy properly anyway due to their profession.

How do you figure that?

They typically train for what - a few hours a day and play one or two matches per week?

They earn millions upon millions annually and have tons of free time: if anyone can enjoy a busy city it's professional athletes.
