CL and EL Matches, 21/10-23/10

Post by gp543 »

City drawing 2-2 after a very controversial penalty awarded to Moscow. They ought to have been out of sight though.

They will be on 2 points after this match and out of the Champions League effectively.

City's record in Europe, despite having tricky groups, is utter shite.

Europe is where managers get found out tactically. It's why we have taken so many bumholings over the years. City have never been any good tactically. Having 8 expensive attacking players to rotate at any one time is fine for brushing aside relegation fodder 4-0 at home or getting the job done if you're labouring at 0-0 after an hour, but it's not going to cut it in the CL. Ferguson was also pretty average tactically - by the end his go-to move consisted of just chucking 4 strikers on the pitch and relying on the other side to buckle - and that's why (despite 2 CL wins!) their dominance in the PL is not quite reflected in their CL performance over his tenure.

i thought Roma would do better than that - still, nice to see el cashley get torn a new one.

5-0 now.

And yet he could only score from an offside position. I would give him credit for trying hard last night , but very little for his ability. Cashley played well , excellent on the first goal. :D

In no way surprising to read the following on BBC:

19 mins - Liverpool should be very happy with this start. Their tempo, pressing and energy on the break has worried Real.
41 mins - LIVERPOOL 0-3 REAL MADRID (BENZEMA)

Liverpool were always going to fly out the blocks then get hammered once that wore off.
