Winning with foreigners no 2?

Post by PremWatch »

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous questions under the heading of 'winning with foreigners'. The information provided was enlightening and has been a big help to my dissertation.

However I now have a few more questions and would be grateful if you could provide me with your views for this set of questions?

Q1 What do you believe are the reasons for the influx of foreign players to the Premier league?

Q2 Do foreign players have an impact on home grown players?

Q3 Do you agree or diasagree that 'foreigners' involvement within the Premier league affects the results and performances of the National team?

Q4 What changes could be made to increase the numbers of English born players or (UK) in the Premier league?

Q5 Do you believe 'foreigners' have a deterimental effect on any aspect of the English game?

Q6 Is the success of your club team who you support week in and week out more of a priority than the performances and results of the National team? Please explain

Thankyou for your time

1. Money, money & more money

2. They should have and in many cases they do but there are too many
home grown players(not in our club mind) that dont know how to spell
the word professional never mind act it

3. Maybe its easy for me to say this as an Irish man but england were
shite long before the premiership was ever formed. History will tell you
that england has only ever won one tournament and that was played in
their own backyard. If parents and coaches at grassroots level grasped
the new ideas that have come from the foreigners then in a few years
england could become a real threat but I cannot ever see the
british/Irish mindset ever changing enough for that to happen. I'd say
the influx of foreigners has actually hit the Irish/scots and welsh
national teams more than the english actually

4. As A fan I want to see the quality players playing in the prem so I am
totally against anything diluting that standard.

5. Maybe player loyalty. British and Irish players are more inclined to stay
at a club for longer periods of time than the "foreigners" who may well
move on for another paycheque. Judas cole is the obvious exception

6. Club over country every time

Q1 What do you believe are the reasons for the influx of foreign players to the Premier league?

MONEY FOR MOST; BETTER LIFESTYLE FOR SOME; THE CHANCE OF PLAYING IN THE MOST EXCITING AND MOST WATCHED LEAGUE IN THE WORLD FOR A FEW.

Q2 Do foreign players have an impact on home grown players?

WELL THE GOOD ONES DO. CANTONA HAD A TREMENDOUS IMPACT AT MAN UTD IN THE EARLY 90'S; BERGKAMP AT ARSENAL; VIALLI AND ZOLA AT CHELSEA. IF YOU'RE A YOUNG BRITISH PLAYER AND YOU CAN'T LEARN FROM THE LIKES OF THEM, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE EARNING A LIVING IN THE GAME.

Q3 Do you agree or diasagree that 'foreigners' involvement within the Premier league affects the results and performances of the National team?

DISAGREE. IN MY OPINION THE TALENT IS THERE FOR ENGLAND TO BE DOING BETTER. WHAT WE NEED IS A GREAT COACH TO PIECE THEM TOGETHER PROPERLY. THAT'S WHY I'M HOPEFUL THAT THINGS WILL GET BETTER AND THINK THAT CAPPELLO IS THE RIGHT MAN TO DO IT.

Q4 What changes could be made to increase the numbers of English born players or (UK) in the Premier league?

A CHANGE IN ATTITUDE BY THOSE BRITISH PLAYERS TRYING TO MAKE IT WOULD BE A GOOD FIRST STEP!! OTHERWISE, QUOTAS IS THE OBVIOUSLY SOLUTION BUT I'M AGAINST THAT AS IT'S JUST AS LIKELY TO DRIVE STANDARDS DOWN, THAN UP.

Q5 Do you believe 'foreigners' have a deterimental effect on any aspect of the English game?

ONLY IF THE QUALITY OF THOSE COMING OVER IS NOT OF A HIGH STANDARD, WHICH CAN SOMETIMES BE THE CASE. THE HOPE IS THAT THE GOOD FOREIGNERS WILL INFLUENCE AND HELP THE BRITISH LADS IMPROVE - IF THEY ARE WILLING TO LEARN.

THE ONLY OTHER ASPECT IN WHICH IT CAN BE DETERIMENTAL IS WITH LOYALTY, BECAUSE OF THE MONEY THE VARIOUS AGENTS AND REPRESENTATIVES THAT NORMALLY COME WITH THEM CAN MAKE. IT GENERALLY LEADS TO A QUICK REQUEST FOR A SUBSTANTIAL PAY RISE, OR A THREAT TO MOVE ELSEWHERE.

Q6 Is the success of your club team who you support week in and week out more of a priority than the performances and results of the National team? Please explain

YES. I WANT AND HOPE THAT THE NATIONAL TEAM TO DO WELL BUT WHEN IT COMES TO ARSENAL, IT'S ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LEVEL. THESE ARE THE PLAYERS YOU SUPPORT WEEK IN, WEEK OUT AND ON WHOM YOU PLACE YOUR TRUST, HOPES AND DREAMS. BECAUSE THE CLUB SIDE PLAY MORE OFTEN, THE EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO THEM IS A LOT MORE TANGIBLE.

1) The tag the premier league has, which is it is the most exciting and toughest league to play in, in the world.

2) Depending on the attidtudes of the home grown players they can have positive and negative effects. If you were comfortably in the team every week and a foreigner comes and takes ur place, it could help you improve your game, competition in a position will always improve your game if your willing to up your's to get back in the first 11.

The bad effect would be that some young players think they have a god foresaken right to be in and around the first team because they came through the club's academy's, causing bad relationships between players and homegrown players which the club has produced and then transfers to another club.

3) In my opinion it has not had a bad affect on the national team, other's will say that as im an Arsenal supporter i would say that with the foreigners we have in our own team, but this was meant to be the golden generation of english football, with thier best chance of winning a trophy since 66. People are to willing to look around and find other people to blame, instead of looking at themselves and thinking how they could improve. Also High quality foreign players, have helped raise the standard of english players, as they are given the chance to play with them in training and against them every week.

4) The national academy which they have permission to build, i don't understand why they didn't follow other counrties in that respect after the success they have had with them. With our country looking for the club academy's to produce the next national stars, instead of realizing the club academy's are thier to provide quality players for the FUTURE OF THE CLUB NOT COUNTRY.

5) Some might say we have seen an increase in simulation or diving as it's more commonly known, with a few in every team but they our only a small minority even though pundits will look to examine the majority, and a slip which wouldn't of caused any issues can now be over examinned, with the media splashing across the headlines it suggests it's happening every game. With players like Robbie Savage in the league you cannot blame foreign players.

For example: In a poll a few years ago nearly 60% thought that crime rates in the U.K were increasing when they were actually decreasing, this shows how the media can persuade people's opinions.

6) Yes, supporting your club is a week in week out commitment, and you become to love certain players in your team. People then find it diffilcult to have the same fealings and hope for the players in the national team as you don't watch them every week and they play for rival teams. International breaks can also cause inconvience to your club's title challenge and injury's can occur to your club's players while they are away, as we found out with Van Persie and has never really recovered since.
6)

Q1 What do you believe are the reasons for the influx of foreign players to the Premier league?

MONEY, MAINLY, ALSO THE ENORMOUS EXPOSURE THAT PLAYING IN THE PREMIERSHIP GIVES A PLAYER

Q2 Do foreign players have an impact on home grown players?

YES AND ITS USUALLY A GOOD INFLUENCE - PLAYING AND TRAINING WITH PLAYERS SUCH AS VIERA, BERGKAMP, ZOLA, HENRY, CANTONA, RONALDO CAN ONLY BE BENEFICIAL, THOUGH MORE MEDIOCRE FOREGN PLAYERS CAN BE SEEN AS BLOCKING HOME-GROWN PLAYERS, USUALLY AT THE SMALLER CLUBS

Q3 Do you agree or diasagree that 'foreigners' involvement within the Premier league affects the results and performances of the National team?

DISAGREE ENTIRELY- THE NATIONAL TEAM'S PROBLEMS ARE FOR UTTERLY UNRELATED REASONS AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE 11 GOOD ENOUGH UK BORN FOOTBALLERS TO PLAY FOR ENGLAND

Q4 What changes could be made to increase the numbers of English born players or (UK) in the Premier league?

A SYSTEM OF FA ACADEMIES BASED FROM ONE MAIN NATIONAL ACADEMY SIMILAR TO WHAT THE FRENCH HAVEBASED AT CLAIREFONTAINE, ITS AN UTTER DISGRACE THAT WE DON'T HAVE THIS

Q5 Do you believe 'foreigners' have a deterimental effect on any aspect of the English game?

NO

Q6 Is the success of your club team who you support week in and week out more of a priority than the performances and results of the National team? Please explain

MY CLUB IS WAY WAY WAY MORE IMPORTANT THAN ENGLAND - I DO SUPPORT ENGLAND WHENEVER THEY PLAY BUT MOST OF THEIR GAMES ARE MISMATCHES - IE WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS, MANY PLAYERS PLAY FOR RIVAL CLUBS AND I DISLIKE THEM (LAMPARD,TERRY, CUNTLY HOLE) AND THE TEAM IS SO BADLY MISMANAGED BY THE IDIOTIC FA THAT I HAVE ALL BUT GIVEN UP CARING -

THOUGH I AM IN A PRIVELEDGED POSITION OF SUPPORTING A TOP 4 CLUB, IF I SUPPORTED A LESSER CLUB THEN I AM SURE I WOULD BE MUCH MORE INTERESTED IN THE NATIONAL SIDE
