Help needed please - question for those who went to Roma

Help needed please - question for those who went to Roma

Post by cookie_mcfc »

Hello there, off to Rome next week and was after a bit of advice from those that might have gone a couple of years ago. Is there anything to prevent people just getting the free buses back after the game? i.e. one way.
It looks like they leave ridiculously early beforehand, so we're contemplating getting taxis to the stadium but don't fancy wandering the streets afterwards trying to flag cabs down. Hence the question about the bus.
Any help would be appreciated.

This was printed with the match tickets:

"If you travel to the stadium independently please be aware you are at risk. For your own safety please do not use the Ponte Duca D'Aosta Bridge to gain access to the stadium". Very strict advice to meet up at Villa Borghese and take the convoy of buses.

The ropocops will make sure you get on the buses after the game
and I would get the buses to the game as well unless your group is willing and able :box:
saying that a few of ours did suffer knife wounds defending the doors when they attacked
the buses on the way to the ground so middle of the bus is the place to be

I was there in 2009 and after the match (plus 90 minutes of being held in) the police shepherded us onto the buses. So there's nothing stopping you from traveling independently to the match and then buses back; it wasn't a return or nothing type of thing. There were different buses if you were on the official Arsenal travel than independently.

Cheers for the replies. Is it true that the bus that was attacked took a wrong turning? Herbert did you go? I assume that the local plod want everyone in the stadium as early as possible - are there any bars anywhere near the pick up point in the park?

Italian pubs and liquor stores are also very discriminatory against anyone speaking English on matchday. Be wise to stock up the night before the match if you're getting there early.

After being held in for nearly two hours after the game (baring in mind it went to penalties), I seem to remember being piled into a few buses outsides. Completely overcrowded, they sat for at least half an hour before setting off as well, I was crushing some poor woman and there was nothing I could do about it. Everywhere was dead by the time we got back to Termini station.

I have no idea either. Is it about gypsies or Italians? I saw us play Lazio in Rome and their fans spent the whole game being racist and then smashed up their own city. As for gypsies, I have never seen us play them, although, I imagine it would be quiet physical and involve horses.

Would definitely be a smash-and-grab affair.

Thanks for the helpful advice, the information is much appreciated. If, like yourselves, we come away with a result, I'm sure the wait on the buses will be bearable. Cheers again.

I think you already have the answers needed but bear in mind that the police will instruct all the pubs not to serve alcohol on the day of the game, at least they did when we were there. And, after talking to locals they said that they do this for all English clubs so like was said above it might be best to stock up the day before. Some restaurents will serve beer with a meal so you might get around it that way, I know one served me a pizza slice and then let me stay there drinking for a few hours.

Regarding the bus that got attacked, I was told that it was hired privately and that it may have took a wrong turn. Not 100% sure though :? Also the wait in the stadium was bloody painfull after so it might be an idea to have a few bottles waiting for you in the hotel when you do get back to it.

We missed the buses & got cabs to the game after our bar was attacked by the Ultras, but managed to chase them off in the end after building a defensive position out of chairs & tables :box: Bit like the Alamo / Rourke's Drift revisited

However the taxis won't take you right up to the stadium & they will be waiting about even after KO trying to catch you.

The cops will also try to close any bars before the game that have large numbers of away fans & then you will have to disperse to the side street pubs for beers. Where the scumbag ultras will be waiting about for victims! :banghead:

Stay safe out there, they are cowardly scum!
