Train problems January/February

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Train problems January/February

Post by Chippy »

There are going to be mega train problems for next couple of months. For those Surrey gooners like me the service is going to be dire. If you use South West trains at all look here.

Next weekend there are also works on the Stansted line which I know is used a lot by Irish gooners.

There are loads of others so if you see something that could effect gooners' journeys, please post here.

I remember getting caught up in that a couple of years ago but that time it wasnt planned works - got back to t'ham hale only to discover no trains running out to stanstead. Was lucky enough to run into a few other Irish Gooners and we got a taxi to bring us all out - jeez he drove like a lunatic to get us out there on time  :barscarf:

Woking to Guildford 10 mins. Guildford to Reading 40 mins. Reading to Paddington 25 mins. Plus all the time for connections. Most trains from here are taking over an hour as opposed to the usual 24 mins. Sadly there will also be some almighty fuck up somewhere. :(

Can I just point out that the Thameslink service is running well this morning, as it does most mornings.

It will also be much better in December when the first of the brand new fleet of 115 Siemens, state of the art, trains goes into service. :barscarf:

Is that the Thameslink 2000 project the should have been finished in, you know, 2000? :D And the same Thameslink that has 4 sets of engineering work this weekend? Gooners from Sussex should look at the engineering works for the game on Sunday.

The last 9 or 10 times I've been over we've gotten taxis to and from StanStill airport. Not that much dearer than the express and no fucking about. Also, you don't have to dirty your shoes walking on the platform at tottingham Hale. :D

Noooo...this is the new thameslink project that kicked off in 2009. Planned delivery of the full service has always been scheduled for 2018. The original project was scrapped as it was too costly and didn't provide a good enough solution.
The line will have a new operator in full effect by then. FCC lost the contract this year and Govia have taken over.

I find the Gatwick/ Southern Trains route the best to take. Lot cheaper train wise anyway. Into Victoria then tube to Finsbury. Used to live near Gatwick so get to stay with friends free also ..

Apologies for the ignorance, but two questions.

1. Would this affect trains from Victoria to Thornton Heath for the palace match?

2. Would this affect trains from Gatwick to Heathrow (will certainly go with National Express bus if so)?

No safe with that one. However gooners using the Overgound from Highbury are stuffed as it is not running between H&I and Shadwell

There are no trains from Gatwick to Heathrow ever so National Express is the only option. Not sure why you would want to do that though.

There have been engineering works on that line most weekends for at least 25 years so kind of used to it now.
