Long range goals

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Long range goals

Post by nut flush gooner »

Pretty special goal by Charlie Adams yesterday. Anyone remember this by the Super Swede Anders Limpar in the early 90s?

I was in the north bank terrace, which was jumping up and down when the ball was en route. We knew it was going in as soon as he shot!

Were you standing next to me??!! What struck me was as he hit the ball there was an instant silence as everyone was thinking "what's he done?" then, as you say, the noise grew immediately as we all saw what he'd seen a split second earlier. That was the last game I saw from the North Bank terrace so it's another of those memories that stick.

Also of course that was on Easter Monday. Perhaps we could ask the prem if we can play Liverpool every Easter what with that, TH14 tearing them a new one on a Good Friday and yesterday, it would do marvels for our goal difference!

I was there for that one, stood on the clock end, easter Monday 1992,its such a shame that this was pre premier league days when there was less tv coverage and the two teams were just playing out their remaining games as it got little or no coverage on the telly,in fact I bet there are very few football suppporters who have ever even seen Limpars goal or even heard about it unlike yesterdays effort by Adam or beckhams from 96 ec etc

There was about 15,000 gooners in the north bank so unlikely, unless you used to stand on the "middle" section just above the gangway that split the terrace in two.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Trust me the noise from 15,000 gooners under that low roof beats anything the emirates could offer today.

As it was pre PL, of course sky would never be interested in showing it as a comparison to Charlie Adams goal. Given the footballs didn't swerve as much in those days, it was a goal that should be recognised as one of the great long range shots.

True enough that
This was the time when itv were showing live games though
I remember getting home from this game and leeds v Coventry being on
I don't remember weather they showed the goals of the day even
I think if you wanted to see it you had to by the video the following season

My favourite type of long range goal is one absolutely smashed from about 35 yards, that hits the underside of the crossbar, bounces down onto the line, and then up into the top of the net.
