BBC News - Minute's silence to be held for Bradford City fire http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-32461636
To coincide with last home game of Bradfords season.
Heartfelt sympathy and respect for a genuine tragedy.
Not so much in-your-face and pushed down your throat as Hillsborough but much more classy and honest.

Re: Bradford fire anniversary
Always seems to get forgotten after Hillsborough and Heysel.
Being born and bred in Lincoln I'll never forget that day as long as I live. 2 of the fans who died were from Lincoln and in their 70s. The club named a stand after them.
The 56 should never be forgotten

Not forgotten but remembered with dignity..
Re: Bradford fire anniversary
We was at west brom that day
Last game of the season
Ian Allinson scored a late equaliser 2-2
It was quite stunning watching the fire enveloping the ground
There were cameras there because it was meant to be a celebration but they just went over there and played it out live
1st reports said everyone had got out
It was a real there but for the grace of god moment

Lads, let's not use this tragedy as a stick to beat the Scousers with, huh? Whilst I agree the Scouse thing is distasteful and Bradford have been classy in relation to their tragedy, we must remember that the actual Liverpool fans that died at Hillsborough were in the front, had arrived on time and paid in. Their loss is as real to their families as the Bradford victims' loss to theirs.
RIP to the Bradford 56.

Agree with all of that. As the poster above mentioned, the Gooners were at West Brom that day and it was my first ever away match. Suddenly that feeling of excitement disappeared as the terrible events of that day unfolded. Similarly I was watching us play Newcastle the day of the Hillsborough tragedy - both equally tragic losses of innocent lives, of people like us who went to watch a football match with their mates and families. We might bemoan the lack of atmosphere now and reminisce back to the 'good old days' of standing, but generally speaking football fans were treated like shit and stood in shambolic stadia that hadn't been upgraded in decades.DB10GOONER wrote:Lads, let's not use this tragedy as a stick to beat the Scousers with, huh? RIP and thoughts and prayers with anyone involved that day
Re: Bradford fire anniversary
I remember this so clearly.
Sitting at home watching Grandstand with my dad and they showed it as it happened. I sat there transfixed as the small fire quickly took hold within minutes.
The image of the man walking calmly out whilst engulfed in flames has stayed with me to this day. Horrific.

I'll never forget that image as long as I live. Absolutely gut wrenchingly horrific.Monkeymaw wrote:I remember this so clearly.
