MacMillan Cycle Ride £31,300 raised
Begging for some help here so would the other mods leave this in here for the time being please.
I've arranged a Charity Cycle ride taking place in August. The ride covers nearly 300 miles from Germany to Gatwick and I've managed to get 80 people to come along and take part. We're trying to raise as much as we can for charity and I'd appreciate any donations you guys (and Gals) would be willing to make.
The place to go to donate is:- http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Th ... CycleEvent
We're trying to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Care. Did you know it costs £50k a year to sponsor a MacMillan Nurse? The work they do is amazing. I've seen it first hand back when my father died in 2009.
Anything you can give, even £1, will be greatly appreciated.
PS. If you do donate, please reference 'Spuddy' or 'OnlineGooner' in the text so I know it was made on my behalf.
Thanks in advance.

My Dad died from cancer in 2012. The Macmillan nurses who looked after him were fantastic.Count me in for £25. However, how safe is it to donate on that website? I can send a P.O. or cheque.

I still want to give £25 as promised, but I don't like putting my card/bank details onto an internet site. I will happily do it by P.O., cheque or bank transfer, let me knowSPUDMASHER wrote:Many thanks to Herbert and Herd for their donations.![]()

I really appreciate the offer, it's very generous. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to handle any donations personally owing to our company compliance rules (they're terrified that I'll pocket it myself). All donations have to be made direct to the web page.
I do understand your reluctance to put your card details into a machine. Internet fraud is rife these days.
This web page though is totally 100% secure (as much as any can be).
Thanks for the generous offer.

Tbh Spuddy.
Nowadays, I'm rather against personally contributing to the growing cancer support charities. I think it is another device to take hard earned monies by emotional blackmail.
A friend of mine was a preeminant cancer specialist for Baxter pharmaceuticals. He once told me that, there is no profit in curing cancers.
My father passed away four years ago, this week. I regularly took him to his Chemo/Radio therapies, and was there at his death.
I'm now currently unemployed so that I can be my mother's carer.
I'm 52 y/o.
I want to make an exception to my rule and donate a score.
I shall do it tomorrow when my carers allowance lands. Lol.
Be well and good luck fellow Gooner.

Re: MacMillan Cancer Charity Cycle Ride
Massive thanks for the donation TL, very much appreciated.
I understand the comments from the Baxters guy. Big Pharma don't want to find cures as it doesn't earn them money. That's why they generally focus on treating the symptoms not the cause. Very frustrating but a fact of life. Until we can overturn this type of corporate thinking then there will be a need for MacMillan and Hospices and as long as there is a Tottenham there will be a need for mental health charities
incidentally, MacMillan will get you any back dated carers allowances you or your mother are owed from the time your father was diagnosed with cancer. They did so for my mother when my father passed.

Re: MacMillan Cancer Charity Cycle Ride
Cheers spuddy. You're very welcome.
I got the backdated allowance and gave it to my mum as a windfall. It helped pay for her to visit my bruv in Oz.
I forgot to mention that during my father's palliative care in a hospice, the MacMillan nurses played a blinder.
They really are angels.
