FIFA bribery arrests/Blatter Resigns!!
Six football officials were arrested and detained by Swiss police on Wednesday pending extradition at the request of US authorities after a raid at a luxury hotel in Zurich.
The officials are in Switzerland for the FIFA congress and presidential election, where Sepp Blatter is widely expected to win a fifth term at the helm of the governing body of world football.
Blatter was not among the men arrested, FIFA spokesman Walter de Gregorio told the Associated Press, but vice president Jeffrey Webb was.
Blatter is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Confederation of African Football at 10:30am local time in a different Zurich hotel.
The Swiss Federal Office of Justice said in a statement that US authorities suspect the six officials of having received or paid bribes totalling millions and that the crimes were agreed to and prepared in the US, and payments carried out via US banks.
The FOJ said the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating the individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kick-backs between the early 1990s and now.
'The US authorities suspect them of having received bribes totalling in the USD millions,' said the statement.
'The arrest warrants were issued further to a request by the US authorities. The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating these individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kick-backs between the early 1990s and the present day.
'The bribery suspects -- representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms -- are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer officials -- delegates of FIFA and other functionaries of FIFA sub-organizations -- totaling more than $100 million.
'In return, it is believed that they received media, marketing, and sponsorship rights in connection with soccer tournaments in Latin America.
'According to the US request, these crimes were agreed and prepared in the US, and payments were carried out via US banks.
The statement said the detainees would be questioned by Zurich police regarded the U.S. request.
'A simplified procedure will apply for wanted persons who agree to their immediate extradition. The Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) can immediately approve their extradition to the US and order its execution.
'However, if a wanted person opposes their extradition, the FOJ will invite the US to submit a formal extradition request within the deadline of 40 days specified in the bilateral extradition treaty.

Re: FIFA bribery arrests
Unless it is blatter, or someone willing to rat blatter out and give evidence against him, then I dont really give a fcuk. The news that fifa is corrupt is as surprising as hearing that the world is round - to enforce change you need to aim to get the highest ranking official possible but tbh I feel that blatter is an expert at this and will have his tracks well covered
I think that the best we can hope for here is that the scandal will tarnish his standing in the football community (it happened on his watch) and that will lead to a lack of confidence in him to the point of losing the election

Unfortunately that won't happen. Needs a complete overhaul of FIFA and they're unlikely to vote the end to the gravy train.augie wrote:Unless it is blatter, or someone willing to rat blatter out and give evidence against him, then I dont really give a fcuk. Re: FIFA bribery arrests
We all know that Fifa are as corrupt as anything (allegedly
) And if it is possible to bring charges that stick - that would be great....for far too long those scumbags have been pocketing astronomical salaries for swanning about doing fuckall...
More than anyone else I want to see Blatta brought to book - Can you imagine the crunts smugcunt face when the judge sentences him to 10 years hard labour in a Columbian or Turkish prison - In a confined cell with Big Bubba

Arresting these fuckbags without arresting Blatter is like the Nuremburg trials all over again; yeah, we got Göring, Hess, Jodl and Keitel to stand trial for their crimes - but we didn't get Hitler to trial.

I'm traumatised.

I reckon you are safe to accuse FIFA and Septic Bladder of almost anything and not need to use the word "allegedly"!!OneBardGooner wrote:We all know that Fifa are as corrupt as anything (allegedly) And if it is possible to bring charges that stick - that would be great....for far too long those scumbags have been pocketing astronomical salaries for swanning about doing fuckall...

Do you not think that once the heat really comes down on those arrested that they will all talk to strike a deal and save themselves a little bit of time/pain?
This is the FBI we are talking about not some independent review made up of some feeble committee.
They smell blood, red cards out everywhere.

Also, companies and individuals involved have already pleaded guilty, so will probably cooperate. I'm hopeful that FIFA might actually get their cumuppance.
