Loan deals
Loan deals
I'm getting a bit concerned with all these loan deals wenger has sanctioned. I can see the benefit but the Martinez loan to wolves leaves us with 2 keepers, Akpom to Hull is another strange one as I was hoping he'd be getting the odd opportunity with us. A strong squad looks remarkably thin now? Is wenger anticipating an injury free season? Has he not noticed what has happened every season for the last 10 seasons when we have half the squad out injured?

Re: Loan deals
We don't have first team players capable of winning the league. We don't have the mentality or character to deal with different situations.
I'd look at these problems first.

Re: Loan deals
I would agree with Martinez going out on loan it leaves us with either Matt Macey or Ryan Huddart as 3rd choice keeper who are both inexperienced and haven't even played in carling cup for us as of yet. I can see why Akpom has gone on loan but at the same time Sanogo got given chances starting against the likes or Liverpool and Bayern Munich a couple of seasons back but all Akpom has had is a few cameo appearances. Similar story with Afobe would Sanogo have been as prolific as him in the championship since hes been there, yet didn't get a look in at Arsenal

Hardly 7 good squad players for a CL side which supposedly harbours aspirations of winning the PL.
Gnabry is a very promising young player (but an area in which we have some strength in depth), Jenkinson is a decent enough back-up RB (but not better than the two we have currently), Szczesny is a viable third choice keeper (which is rarely much use) - apart from that they range from completely unproven to completely useless. Doesn't really weaken the squad much at all imo.
Re: Loan deals
In my opinion there should be an age limit worldwide where players cannot be sent on loan once they reach that age. It really pisses me off when I see the Italian clubs building good squads every season but with many of the players not even owned by the club. In our club I continue to see dross players being kept on the books but being sent out on loan every season cos they ain't good enough for us - if they ain't good enough then get rid of them and if the club takes a financial hit in the process, then it might make them think twice about giving players out contracts that they have yet to earn.
For what it's worth I agree with loaning out gnarby - he is coming back from an injury hit season and needs to show whether he is ready to step up and he can't be given that opportunity with us.
The akpom situation is a little less clear - all the achievements in his career to date suggests that he could be a good striker but yet he hasn't been given a chance by a manager that has given chances to the likes of le postman
If he doesn't feel confident blooding him in with us or doesn't feel that he would get enough games with us, then why not arrange a loan for him with a premier league team ? He is at an age know where he needs to prove himself better than championship level and I think that this loan deal isn't a good one unless le cock is using it to put him in the shop window to sell him

Re: Loan deals
Agree re loaning out Gnabry - would be great if he could get a season of regular prem football.
If you're looking for abuses of the loan system Chelsea are worse than anyone - they use it to stockpile young talent then loan out 20-30 players at any one time. Outrageous.

Fully agree with NB123- its surprising nothings been done yet about the loan system. It can work well for the low league clubs, and I would say that both Rambo and Wilshere benefited from their loan times, as well as the clubs who helped devellop them. Likewise Jenko . I assume theres a call back clause for emergencies, though that could have happened last year with Jenko but didnt
.
The difficulty is that a lot of players have the potential yet are missing something. That something may never happen, injuries, other things in life get in the way or improve. Its impossible and wrong to assume that a player age 20 say is the best they will be- theres late developers etc.Wrighty is the classic, came from almost no-where.
I would therefore say that a player is best to stay registered at a big club in case, I cant really see it affecting their development in a bad way. Im not at all sure that the academy style that almost all the big clubs have is currently is doing young players a service. Theres a "world wide shortage" of Dms and CBs- I am sure that the academy/ statistic mad selection and recruitment is at fault with that. Likewise where have all the great UK goalies gone- we led the way for over 40 years, and they've all seemingly disappeared

And yet only a few short years ago, there was a clamour for almunia to declare for engerland

Re: Loan deals
On the other side of the coin clubs like us, Chelsea and United should not be loaning players except in emergencies

Re: Loan deals
I not against loans per se but in the case of Akpom and Jenkinson i would have loaned them only until Xmas by which time he will have had time to get some games in .
By this time Arsenals walking wounded list will reach its normal levels and we will need to use them !
