last night was my first match I attended this season at the Emirates (I am not planning on returning in the near future based on last night tbh)
anyway I thought I would take in a few of the pubs on the Holloway Road pre match.
first up - went to the Junction on Highbury Corner. couldnt believe it. it is still a pub but they have got rid of all their big screens showing the football.
second - walked past the Bailey. i knew it had closed nearly a year ago but hoped that it might be bought by a pub chain .
apparently it will re open today as a chicken restaurant
finally checked on one of the closest pubs to the ground. Recently known as Filthys, it is still closed.
so there you have it - in the space of a year THREE match day pubs have closed. I know pubs are closing down all over but it is still shocking to see so many go in what is so obviously a very busy area.
I will approach the Emirates from Finsbury Park in future...

It's probably a mixture of the wetherspoons effect and that the demographic of people who don't want to drink in these places is increasing.
Obviously the coke trade in baileys wasn't enough to prop it up
On the plus side, Phibbers has reopened after refurbishment.

What was the name of that gay bar you kept trying to steer me and my mates into after the scum game a few years back?arseofacrow wrote:It's probably a mixture of the wetherspoons effect and that the demographic of people who don't want to drink in these places is increasing.

Anyway, avoid that one would be my advice.

I went to phibbers last night. Good boozer with quick service. Defo a few thugs frequent there with an EIE flag on display.arseofacrow wrote:It's probably a mixture of the wetherspoons effect and that the demographic of people who don't want to drink in these places is increasing.

Next door is a Turkish restaurant that serve the best kebabs in the area, they also do a lovely Efes draught.
A sign of how our club has changed over the last decade was when a group of yank gooners came up to us asking how to get to caledonian road. I said it was about a mile up the road but why go there when you can go into holloway road tube (it reopens one hour after the end of each match). The geezer said there was a big queue outside. He also needs to get used to British terminology he described the tube as line. I thought he was after some of the powdered stuff for a minute!
Bloody yanks !
