Sherwood has been sacked this morning. Who will they get to replace him?

Always sad when someone loses their job. Poor bloke. :(

Oh, wait? we're talking about Timmy? :coffeespit:

Good riddance... although it was a lot of fun watching how angry he got when things went against him. I'll miss that

Think this is a huge mistake. Villa have been in freefall for years. Benteke is the only player they have had who has performed over the last half a decade. There is no quality there and the players have no fight whatsoever, unlike the other teams who will be scrapping down there.

Villa are fighting against relegation because that's the level they are at. It's not a false representation, whoever manages them has to deal with this unrealistic notion that they should be better than they are (not sure they mention it often but they've actually won a European Cup). To be fair to Sherwood at least he created some enthusiasm there and got them to the FA Cup final - they didn't turn up on the day but were absolutely superb against Liverpool in the semis.

They brought in 12 players over the summer and saw 11 go the other way. Personally I don't think they've got much in return for their an outlay north of £50m but they have to back Sherwood for a lot longer than they have. Now they will instead fill his role with some boring bastard who will inspire nobody and take over a sinking ship full of mercenaries and some other manager's signings. I don't think Sherwood is a great manager but he's the sort of character they need there.

Can't wait for them to go down - hope this is the year.

Pretty much agree with all you say there northbank 8)

Villa are at best an average team and are very much on a downward spiral. They too are suffering from an absent American owner who is only interested in profits, but their owner is desperately trying to get out and with no new owner on the horizon it paints a picture of a club that no-one wants to believe in

On a personal level I am delighted to see them struggling - there is an arrogance amongst some fans of big clubs (us included) who think that will always be a top club regardless of the lack of effort they put in.

I know that I have said it before, but I can never understand how everton were never bought by all those mega rich foreigners taking over English clubs - a genuine big club who has a real platform that they could build on if they had the funds to bring in quality players

Time will tell if it's a mistake to sack Sherwood, but I must admit I thought he was worth persevering with. The only exception is if they've lined up someone they consider better, like Liverpool did with Jurgen Klopp, but I can't think of anyone.

Sadly, I think McClaren will be next to go. It's just too easy to get sacked these days and I don't think it's right :(

you trust a young manager with 50mil and say "go on, we trust you to spend it", and when you don't get instant results you just sack the manager? well aren't you fucking clever  what chance does a young manager have? there are no quick fixes, you sell your best players, you're going to suffer. needless to say benteke and vlaar were sold above his head, what is her supposed to do about it if you don't give the new players a chance to gel and adapt to their new surroundings? now they have to deal with it with yet another manager?

I don't like villa, never have and they have been living off having quite a good team in the early 1980s and before that the 1880s too. two decent teams in you're whole history does not warrant a fucking superiority complex the size of theirs.

hopefully a couple of years in the championship will sort the deluded midland spurs out :D

Apparently Remi Garde is odds on for the Villa job.

Wenger's first Arsenal signing. It probably shows how technically average Arsenal were back then but I was really impressed with Garde when he played for us; from memory, he didn't play many though.

A lot of people seem to think Rodgers there is a no brainer.

He'd have to have no fucking brain to take that job unless he fancies managing in the Championship next year.

maybe Pardew wasn't so bad after all? :rubchin:

also... maybe Big Sam wasn't so bad after all? :rubchin:

I reckon Rogers or Moyes might end up at Newcastle.

Cant honestly see Moyes at Toon yet- they are worse that Manure- wanting the success theyve never had since Jackie Milburn, and if it doesnt come within a season you get the sack. Having been bitten in the same sort of way at Manure would he take it? No way. Rogers would be more likely to take the money and run.

Fat Sam, I still think is one of the best English managers around. Its taken Bilic (Who must be one of the better younger managers around ) to get him out of The Murderers. am I mad- I like him.

Re Tiny Tim- total joke- yeah well lets sell Benteke and Delph as well as many others then get success in a few months. I dont believe Learner is as "Desperate" to sell as is made out if the price is right and all that. Seems Tiny Tim was dead keen to buy Adesahoare - may not have turned so sour if he had

Incidentally Toffees havent sold out cos seems to me that Kenwrights crew have a scrap more decency than many, including dear Lady Nina

I know being ex-Tottenham manager won't get much sympathy on here but he deserved longer than he got. He kept them up and got them to a cup final. He should have been given more time but like sunderland there is a deeper underlying problem with the club. The players know the manager is gonna get the sack if they don't perform, they will still get paid and they are good enough to scrape survival. It's the supporters who suffer at those two clubs.

The wife's cousin is from Birmingham (neither a villa nor a brum fan mind) and he told me last week that moyes is being lined up for the villa job  Tbh I like moyes but would like him to stay and do well in spain cos there are so few players and managers from this end of Europe that look to broaden their horizons beyond the premier (money) league
