Jimmy Hill RIP
Jimmy Hill RIP
News has broken that Jimmy Hill has passed away. He was a pioneer in player rights and football visionary. He dragged football into the modern era, abolishing player capped wages. Played for Coventry and becoming its director, turning their ground into an all-seater stadium years before it became compulsory. He also evolved football media, especially on TV. Football owes a lot to this man. Not to mention he ran the line at Highbury in a league game, and allegedly co-wrote our anthem "Good Old Arsenal".
Condolences to his family..RIP Jimmy Hill

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Sad news about Jimmy. He was someone who always seemed to want the best for the game and was always very honest in his views and opinions. He was the football player and pundit from another era who came across as a polite, decent bloke. People used to make fun of him but fans and players today owe him a lot. RIP Jimmy.

Maybe best that I say nothing here but I've had a pint. Thanks for bringing about the rule that all last games of the season have to kick off at the same time after having your game delayed 15 minutes, hearing Sunderland had lost when all Coventry and Bristol city had to do was match our result to survive and therefore overseeing a testimonial style kick about to relegate us before sitting on the FA panel investigating it and finding yourself not guilty and making a load of money off the back of being some champion of fair play. Sorry for his family but him? Let's just say I wouldn't risk a minutes silence at Sunderland, it wouldn't end well, maybe we'll start one twenty minutes after everyone else

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Cheers mate, I intend to! Nah, we're fucked and it's been a long time coming. Awful decisions, bad appointments and cost cutting has caught up with us. Ah well, fuck it, I'm used to the championship, I'll be there every home game this season, I'll be there every home game next season (and as many aways as I can manage with a 1 year old). It's all good.Henry Norris 1913 wrote:isn't this how all your posts start matesafcftm wrote:Maybe best that I say nothing here but I've had a pint.![]()

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Horrible *word censored* of a man ,had the misfortune of meeting him on a train coming back from Norwich away when I was 14 .
Train was packed and there had been a lot of fighting on it b4 it left between Borhamwood and South London (such infighting was common in the 70's ) so me and my pal jump onto a first class carriage and put the shutters down. Then we saw a chin popping his head in and Jimmy Hill came in with John Motson and 2 other bbc flunkies . He immediately tried to throw us out of the carriage demanding to see our first class tickets ,we asked him if he was the ticket inspector and he got rather aerated calling us hooligans and thugs and we told him he was a bully and a lousy commentator . shorty afterwards he was seen by the boys who started giving him abuse and he shat himself ,and then put the shutters down himself ,which we then opened again .
He talked down to his flunkies for the entire journey and they couldn't get a word in edgeways SUCH WAS HIS BLUSTER .
The ticket inspector never came so we reached Liverpool st where Jimmy sent a flunky to secure a taxi b4 he would dare leave the train.
Met him in company at a work do about 30 years later he hadn't changed a bit was rude to everyone no one allowed to get a word in , I stood back and laughed.
*word censored* of a man enemy of the fan ,shant be feeling sorry for him at all !

Dickie Davies used to run a pub in our town and when he came back on the train on a Saturday night we used to have some banter with him and were kids and once he told us to fuck off but we deserved it, we just didn't cry about it

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Jimmy Hill suffered alzheimers for three years before passing away, I hardly think acting rudely to some kids on a train forty years ago constitues some of that flack
and he also manged to relegate sunderland. something that has alluded wigan, hull, norwich and plenty of others since
to be fair, if you were in the position hill was in, as a fan would you not do the same?

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Whatever he did to a first class fare dodger 65 years ago (
) His legacy is pretty amazing, Chair of PFA, achieved the end of fixed wages, Chairman, manager, player (Not a bad one either) campaigned for ads on shirts, 3 points per win, head of sport at london weekend TV then MOTD presenter for many years.
If many of us achieved anything like that in their field of work or play we would be well chuffed

Re: Jimmy Hill RIP
Hill achieved loads in the game, extraordinary legacy.
Never met him though.
Let me try to lighten up this thread before it gets too internicine.
A friend of mine met John Motson on a train coming back from a Liverpool away game.
My friend was a serious statto, started reeling off from memory a massive list of player statistics; previous team line-ups, scores, times of substitutions etc.
Motson sat there mouthed open in shock for about ten minutes whilst my friend got carried away telling all this information.
When my friend had finished talking , Motson shook his head, said that he had never heard anything like it, and declared,
"I cannot work it out, whether you are blessed or cursed!"

You've been watching too many football hooligan films you soft clunge or maybe "warriors, come out to play"

Now get back to stitching badges on those fake shirts boy/girl whichever you are and try and perform it better this time cos obviously posting on this forum has distracted you, I had to re-sew my one back on the other day
