Remembering Heysel 29 May 1985
Remembering Heysel 29 May 1985
Remembering the 39 deaths and the 600 injured in one of the darkest days in English football history. 31 years on and it's still as shocking now as it was when I watched it unfold live on TV.
Amazing the match actually got played, with recently disgraced UEFA president, Michel Platini scoring the only goal from the penalty spot for Juventus.

You won't get much coverage of this in Pool. They like sweeping things under the carpet when it's their fault.

You can not mention Heysel without reference to "those Cockney accents on the ferry" ..
Also watched it unfold live on TV..Remember thinking at the time that football was fucked..I thought it would never recover from that night..It did recover but along with Hillsborough it changed football forever.. The measures taken after the tragedies were necessary but in ways they were exploited by greedy clubs..
Hard to believe that the day after the final some Liverpool fans were moaning that the foul that led to the ultimately winning penalty was committed outside the area..That was the first denial of Heysel by them..

their twitter posted this pic. still no apology and their fans in the comments abusing anyone who makes that statement without so much as an explanation. a black day for football and yet nothing has been done still.
typed in heysel into google and no articles or anything. shocking tbh

At least you have the decency to spell it correctly.Henry Norris 1913 wrote: their twitter posted this pic. still no apology and their fans in the comments abusing anyone who makes that statement without so much as an explanation. a black day for football and yet nothing has been done still.

Surely that should be re-worded to "In memory of the 39 supporters who were murdered at the Heysel Stadium".Henry Norris 1913 wrote:

They would probably put "murdered by Cockneys" instead.. Actually in time history will show that Liverpool were not playing in the 1985 European Cup Final in the Heysel Stadium in Brussels.. So how could it be their fault..?

Deafening silence from the murderers as usual. This is something that they won't be able to wash away. Even with a can of petrol in a lock-up garage.

Watching the Russians scatter the English fans the other night reminded me some what of that night what with fans panicking and climbing over barriers .Similar scenario but shows how decrepit that old Stadium was compared to modern versions.
So many people went to football matches during that era and just didn't return. RIP to all.

Ironic or hypocritical but many of the Irish fans taking to social media to compare and contrast the behaviour of Ireland and England fans in France are also Liverpool fans who have airbrushed any responsibility by their fellow Liverpool fans for one of football's worst atrocities in Heysel Stadium.

Nice to see the Russians doing their own tribute last Saturday by clambering over barriers and fences to try and give other fans a pasting.
