The man transcended sport, he truly was "the greatest". That horrible illness robbed him and us of so much over the last few decades. Rest in peace....we'll never see his like again.

Yes, sums him up perfectly, in terms of world sporting icons only Ali and Pele go beyond their own field.

Had massive problems with Frazier but dealt with Foreman masterfully, who in turn mullered Frazier.
Add Norton into the mix and the 70s was the Golden Era of Heavyweight boxing; nobody ducked anybody. None of this 'protecting your 0' bullshit, just proper hard fuckers going at it for 15 rounds.
Not my personal favourite heavyweight, but arguably his "The Greatest" sobriquet is well deserved.
