Training days
Training days
just curious what the managers and players do on the training ground. Go over tactics and strategies for the next match, nah, can't see that. Listen to words of wisdom from their manager, can see them having a good laugh on this. Running around a bit to stay fit, or maybe taking it lightly as to not get injured on their non-game days. Having a chuckle as they open their banking app to check the balance.
whatever they do, not looking overly productive.

I imagine that under a decent manager, they discuss their previous performances, work on ways to improve and focus on their shape, set-pieces and tactics to over-come their next opponents. At Arsenal, I Imagine that they just do possession games for a while and then get injured.

Got an invite via a friend who used to work at the FA to go to the training ground and witness the session (with lunch to follow)
Got the tour of the training ground etc then outside to watch
They did some light jogging around the field
Then did a specific drill where the whole object was to play Walcott in...... this probably took half an hour and from memory they got it right once ?
They basically played keep ball, tried to manoeuvre the defence about enough to allow Theo to make a run, then try to play him in.
I asked our guide (Shaun) the training ground manager or whatever his job title was whether we would do any specific training to cater for the fact that our opponents in our next game were Stoke (ie crosses for the defence to cope with) and his response was (and I quote, word for word)
"No, we are Arsenal, we let the opposition worry about us"

This was 4/5 years ago now, I leave it up to you to decide if things have changed.
btw the lunch was nice despite the chef being a West Ham fan
Re: Training days
Makes sense. I heard a big chunk of the training is just a glorified 5 a side as Wenger likes them to train ''naturally'' and get them used to real match making decisions, instead of studying tactics and defensive drills.StuartL wrote:Have told this story on here before ( maybe a few times) so apologiesdano wrote:just curious what the managers and players do on the training ground. Re: Training days
Work on specific drills to improve in that department. Always adapt to negate the way the opposition tend to play. If a club play one up front who isn't the quickest, work on a high line in training. Or in our case, just prance around in training. A session will probably be deemed a success if none of our players get injured.
Re: Training days
I have also heard - Not from Stuart, mind you
- that we basically have five-a-sides and gym work.
Obviously - going by the last eight years - there is absolutely no defensive or shooting training. Just endless, monotonous passing drills.
No wonder they are so brittle.
Still, I suppose that free up TOF's valuable time to attend five hour board meetings about the caterers at Cashburton, or nailing rappers in Paris. All for almost £23K per day folks!
