Best Arsenal Goal...? And Why?

Best Arsenal Goal...? And Why?

Post by donkeywinsthe derby »

I can't believe this topic would never have been asked before, but for newies such as myself (hey - we all gotta start somewhere) I'd like to offer my top three, not necessarily in any order:

1. Tony Adams (Arsenal v Everton, League Match 1998). Steve Bould chips the ball over the low mongrel dogs that are the scouse defence, into the path of the marauding colossus that is Tony Adams. half man, half Jesus reincarnated, he controls and thumps the ball home.

Fuck my old boots that was some feeling.

2. John Jensen (Arsenal v QPR, League Match 1994)

After 200 years of waiting JJ curls one in Platini/Bergkamp like from the edge of the area. Cue pandemonium, delerium, sexual frenzy (I still haven't tracked down the unfortunate and, er, sticky young woman next to me that day) and a noise which I don't think I've ever heard before or since at any English ground. Sigh...QPR went on to win 3-1, it was a crap game and a crap day. But I wouldn't have missed that for an evening with Sandra Bullock.

3. Tony Adams (Arsenal v Tottenham, FA Cup Semi Final 1993).

If you need this explaining to you then go back to your Spuz site. Or at least take some Heroin or something just to get you more lively.

Oh, and just about every goal scored by DB10, Titi or Merse. And Wrighty.

Not forgetting Brady (look at that!!)

Or Bob Pires - if only cos most of his goals came against the Spuds.

Wish I'd never started this now...

TA6 goal against Everton was dreamworld!

Mickey at Anfield was glorious!

Smudger in Glorious Glorious Copenhagen!

A personal favourite though was Wrighty flicking the ball this way and that over Everton defenders heads before lobbing Southall! Just the sheer arrogance of it!

Wrighty scored quite a few tasty goals actually - I don't think he ever really got the credit he deserved for just how skillfull he was, as well how many goals he scored.

Remember the chip against Swindon (Campbell scored a hat trick that day and still IW8 got the headlines !)? Or the run/dribble at home against Forest in the cup? Plenty more where they came from.

Not saying he was as good as Titi (but then, who was?), but nevertheless we shouldn't forget just what a player he was simply because the team he played in wasn't as sexy as Henry's.

And he twatted a Spud.

Good on 'im !

Vieira at the lane 04. Obviously we didn't win the match but that goal clinched the title. And what a goal. get shivers every time i see it

"henry who ran away from tottenham famously at highbury and scored from a starting postition similar to that one but on this occasion he looks for bergkamp who looks for VIEIRA"

cant find it on youtube so I'll have to stick on the season review dvd now

Wayno you are a pain in the arse!

Just when I'm sure and settled on my top three you come in and give me three just as good, if not better, ones !!

Kanu's was excellent - especially considering it was his hat trick after we were 2-0 down.

Always remember the next game against Chelsea.

Kanu - who was on the subs bench - starts to warm up and, almost to a man, the ground starts singing, to the tune of silverware:
"Here comes Kanu again, Here comes Kanu again"

Priceless!

NO ... HE WAS BETTER THAN HENRY!! YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER WHO WRIGHTY HAD TO PLAY WITH FOR THE MAJORITY OF HIS ARSENAL CAREER TO APPRECIATE THE TRUE VAULE OF HIS CONTRIBUTION AND WHAT AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS HE WAS. 8)

UNLIKE HENRY, HE SCORED ALL TYPES OF GOALS: FROM BEATING PLAYERS WITH HIS PACE AND SKILL, TO THE SCRUFFY 3 YARD TAP IN. HE ALSO WASN'T AFRAID TO PUT HIS HEAD INTO DANGEROUS AREAS OR TO GET STUCK IN WHEN IT WAS WARRANTED (AND OCCASSIONALLY WHEN IT WASN'T! )

FINALLY, WRIGHTY HAD A LOT MORE PASSION FOR THE CLUB THAN OUR FRENCH HERO (WITH HIS PSEUDO SHIRT KISSING) AND YOU KNEW - WHETHER HE PLAYED WELL OR BAD - HE WOULD GIVE HIS ALL IN EVERY GAME, AGAIN UNLIKE OUR DEARLY DEPARTED TITI, WHO SOMETIMES WOULD JUST ACCEPT DEFEAT.

HENRY WAS A GREAT PLAYER FOR OUR CLUB AND WILL ALWAYS BE A LEGEND. THAT CANNOT BE DENIED. BUT BETTER THAN WRIGHTY OR BERGKAMP? SORRY, I'M NOT HAVING THAT!!
