IF we lose tonight....

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

IF we lose tonight....

Post by tomkingsbury »

whats the ebst possible score for us?? id say 1-1 AET and to lose on pens.
Apologies for the negative thread.

i reckon we got a good chance of winning tho, they think they've done the hard part, and it may affect them psychologically!!

If we lose the Spuds would have beaten our second string nothing more nothing less.We beat them when it mattered in the league.

Is there an away goals rule for the Carling Cup?

I think away goals will suit us this time around. 2-2 is a fairly common result for us at shite hart lane in recent years, and it'll see us through tonight. It's about time away goals worked in our favour.

God I hate that rule

Yup, there are away goals, but it is the world's most bizarre away goals rule ever - they don't count after 90 minutes (which is normally the case and makes sense since both teams have then had an equal amount of time to score them), but they do count after 120 minutes. Hence why last year it went to extra time despite it being 2-2 first leg and 1-1 after 90 mins in the second.

Hopefully that'll work in our favour tonight though, if we're tied at 1-1 after the 90 an extra time away goal for us would royally shaft the spuds!

Last season's final marked the beginning of the end of our season....with that in mind, despite obviously wanting to win, I wouldn't be devasted if we lost tonight - particularly if Chelsea end up winning through against Everton. Its easy to say its "the kids", but I don't think we can afford to risk ANY first teamer in the Carling Cup as we have 3 other more important competitions still to play for!!

wont be a disaster if we dont go through, but if we,re only knocked out on away goals, or a pen shoot out, our undefeated record goes on against them. just dont lose the game, in 90 or 120 mins. if that happens hopefully everton beat chelski, and then do the tots in the final.

Am I alone in wanting to win this competition :?

So it may "only" be the league cup but the boost our young players would get from actually lifting silverware in a final could be significant in their future development.

Plus it is the first step to winning the quadruple :D

I'm sure we all want to win this competition. The only difference between this and the other three is that we are not particularly concerned if we do not.

Sky sports news are showing the goals from the last time these cnuts beat us all day long so they are really hyping it up. It would just be the dogs nuts if we beat them again tonight after all this hype and expection being placed on them after the 1st leg. If we put in a much improved performance, especially effortwise, tonight but still get knocked out then I will accept it but it is unthinkable that we can/will put in another performance like the 1st leg.
Come on you Gooners -lets do these cnuts 8)
