O'Neill and Keane step down.
Mods dump this where appropriate. Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane have stepped down as Ireland manager and assistant manager.
Re: O'Neill and Keane step down.
And about fcuking time too
Nobody would try to argue that Ireland have a great crop of players at the mo, but this dickhead dinosaur never tried to develop them or tried to let them play. A buddy of mine tried to argue the other night that the kid up front isnt good enough for international football - I asked him how can we ever say that when he is playing in a team with a keeper, 8 defenders, and 1 attacking midfielder from bristol city
O'neill's mentality had regressed so much that he had started to play defenders in midfield instead of proper midfielders, and no goals in almost 5 games tells it's own story. The fact that we havent won a game this calander year despite playing some equally average/shit teams, is also an indictment on o'neill and his coaching team and tactics.
Where we (Ireland) go from here will be interesting - I am scared shitless that the fai's commitment to cheap will see them appoint stephen kenny (dundalk manager). Can you imagine a league of Ireland manager trying to tell a millionaire premiership player what to do ?
Ideally we will go for a young coach with fresh idea's that can develop players that in time will be good enough, but failing that mick mccarthy will suffice - chris hughton would be a good option too, but that aint gonna happen.
I know international football is nowhere near as popular with any of us that it once was - however over here we badly need a team to get the fans back on side again before we lose them to that fat rugby shit

Re: O'Neill and Keane step down.
I agree with you Augie but I think any other time O Neill would have got away with it because of apathy but the win in that other sport has sent the nation into a tizzy over that other sport and the powers in the FAI must be worried about the financial implications, because I don't see them caring much about the football
I'm not defending O Neill but Charlton produced as turgid of football at times but was exempt from media and fan criticism. What can you do in a country that changes it's favourite sport more often than it's socks ?

Diiferent era I know, but at least charlton played to try and win the games - he played with 2 up top and played with goalscoring wingers/midfielders, as opposed to o'neill who cant get enough defenders into his team selections

Jeez the list of supposed contenders for the job is enough to make a man contemplate suicide - tax dodger redknapp, fat sam, fat steve bruce, brian kerr and stephen keeny are among those mentioned already, and every one of those c.unts should never be allowed into the country much less manage our team (I wonder if we can block them when brexit kicks in

Oh fucking great. Now that prick O'Neill will end up back in England at some anonymous northern or Midlands club jumping around, throwing his arms about and boring the fuck out of everybody with his oh so funny interviews. He's the Northern Ireland equivalent of Neil fucking Worncock.

Re: O'Neill and Keane step down.
It was September 1989 and Ireland were on the brink of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time ever despite not scoring an away goal in the group up to that point. Germany or West Germany came to Dublin for a friendly and Brady was picked to start...Brady was hauled off to be replaced by Andy Townsend after about 30 minutes by Charlton..It was a signal to Brady that Charlton felt he had nothing to offer and journeyman like Townsend were his way...It was a friendly and Charlton could have left Brady on til half time. Those in the media who still cared about football in Ireland and were not as yet afraid if the populist Charlton felt it was a deliberate humiliation for Brady. There were murmers that Brady had questioned Charlton regarding tatics but that was never confirmed . Whatever the reason it was a brutal and disrespectful way to end the International career of one of the few World Class players ever to play for Ireland.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 5:57 pmSorry Brady but I don't remember thatBradywasking wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 2:03 pmLook at my username and then remember the public delberate humiliation of the player who inspired my username by Charlton..I can never forgive and forget...even if Chippy can.LeftfootlegendGooner wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 1:28 pmWow some of you guys still bitter about Charlton![]()

A year later Brady was Forgotton by the masses as Ireland went to the World Cup and played in one of the worst games in the tournament's history. Brady to his credit never really spoke about it to the media. Obviously I was and am biased about this but it was unforgivable.

ah the old Irish rugger supporters.
Nowhere to be seen 10/15 years ago when the team was average.
They'll slag the football team but when it qualifies for a tournament they become the best fans you'll ever see
