Early leavers at the Lane.
Early leavers at the Lane.
How many true supports did Arsenal have down at the Lane on "Black Tuesday?"
I was as just as angry, furious, let down, and disappointed as anybody watching Arsenal go down, to our bitter bunch of jealous neighbours, I was embarrassed and it was hurtful to watch.
But I was also embarrassed and felt let down by the droves of fans who decided to walk as the fourth goal hit the net, with almost half hour to play, and for the rest of that crept out well before the 90th minute.
I was even more embarrassed watching the media poke fun at our gutless support fleeing for the exits.
In a global football picture, Arsenal have been blessed with success, and great times filled with many wins and few shocking displays as seen on "black Tuesday".
But with the good times you have to take the bad times.
I wanted the ground to swallow me whole as spurs sang songs that they could not remember, but leaving early and walking out on my team was never ever came in thought.
I’ve seen many teams including our jealous bitter neighbours come down to Highbury and Emirates and still remained in song and voice long before there fait was sealed on the pitch.
Some of our so-called fans need a reality check, before they call them selves Arsenal supports yet alone a Football supporters.
You should honestly feel ashamed of yourselves.
How many lower league supporters would off walked out on their team in the same circumstances? I doubt very little.
To all the 400 odd supporters that stayed until the final whistle or in stoppage time give your selves a pat on the back; we need more fans like you.

Totally agree. The supporters who walked out must be the very same ones who criticise early leavers at AG. I don't agree with the latter but the transport situation for home games is a mess but leaving your team when they are 4-0 down to the baying enemy hordes and need your support more than ever is cowardice. Shame on you!

would want to read why they left early from the fans who were there last night as i wouldnt have know what i would have done i have never walk out of an home game but walked out in cardiff after owens 2nd goal as i felt so pissed off by losing that game so maybe the fans felt so bad that they had to go and it may show the boss that when your in the semi of this cup put out a stronger team and give as a chance or maybe just dont enter the bloody thing anymore

This is something that particularly galls me. I would have loved to be at that game irrespecive of the score. I can not afford a season ticket and over the years have had to rely on buying tickets for selected home and away maches from friends. Big games like Manure, Liverpool and the **** are extremely difficult to get.
if these people were so concerned about travel arrangements, why go in the first place? The whole point of football is to follow your team no matter what. Granted it is not so simple in today's world but come on, this was Tottenham. The tickets would be better off in the hands of people who were able to brave whatever came their way. It frustrates me as there is little i can do but rant and rave about this.

if you cant see the difference with people leaving early last night with the pain we were feeling compared to a bunch of JCL's who want to miss the rush at the tube at AG then i feel you might be better keeping your feelings to yourself, nothing to do with travel arrangements nothing to do with beating the rush it was pure pain seeing out team humiliated by the scum, no chance of a revival only the chance to see them dancing and singing chas & dave songs, could not stomach that, and before you ask before this i had not left a game early in over 20 years.
it's because people care they left early last night not because they dont.

I have to agree with Gasman. Although I was not at the game I was watching it on Sky Sports and after the 3rd goal I just couldn't take it anymore and had to switch over. I turned my phone off and proceded to watch 24 for the rest of the night.
That was nothing to do with me not being a true supporter or not supporting my team but it was more to do with the pain I was feeling within my soul. Fair play to all the fans who stayed to the end of the game but personally I couldn't stomach watching the team I love so much be humilated by the scum.
I think everyone is different and no one is any less of a fan for not staying till the end of one of the most humiliating nights in Arsenals history....topped off by 2 of our players almost getting in a ruck!! It was shameful and embarrasing to say the least. The blame should go solely on the players and not the fans!!

I'm going to be totally honest here and probably get slaughtered.
Had I been there I would have left 2 or 3 minutes before the end as well. It's not that I don't care. I was devastated by that scoreline and I don't think I could have suffered the final whistle celebrations as well. To watch those inbred pondlifers making a meal of a win in the cheap beer handicap stakes would have been intolerable. Sorry but thats the truth.
I cannot recall having ever left a game early but I'm sure I must have at some point in the last 30 years, but half an hour? No excuse for that?
My old chap is a spud and he always told me not to leave early. he said he did it once when they were losing to Crewe (if my memory serves me well) 2-3 with five minutes left. When he got home my mum couldn't understand why he was pissed off because the spuds won 5-3. He hadn't a clue so she let him wallow for hours until he saw the result on the box. Top dollar my mum!

Hurtful as it is, people should stay as long as possible. You're there to support your team through thick and thin. When we thrashed Portsmouth 5-1 a few seasons ago did any of their fans fuck off soon. no they stayed and sung their hearts out. I know people say it wasn't a major derby and portsmouth aren't a club with high expectations but my point is that they went there to cheer their team no matter what. That's what we need, people who have had the privelige to attend an Arsenal match and be part of something.
This idea of not taking a derby defeat too well. I understand that very well, and I appreciate that you made the journey there in the first place. But it wasn't for want of trying that I didn't get to go. But why leave an hour into the game? It made us look like bigger idiots on TV (yes I watched the highlights, how's that for masochism?).

Leaving early means you care about the team? I'm not buying that at all. That's just being selfish. You stick with your team through thick or thin.
Singing the new Adebayor song, however catchy it may be, when he wasn't even on the friggin pitch was just stupid and rude. So much for supporting Walcott through a rough patch.
