bbc.co.uk reckon he's already had a medical at Spurs so this really is a case of us getting in there at the last moment. There must be a good chance of Woodgate going to Spurs given that he's more likely to be in the first team than at our place.I Hate Hleb wrote:ARSENAL HAVE AGREED A FEE WITH MIDDLESBORO FOR WOODGATE. I'd be delighted if we got him though - I wanted him to come to us after his initial loan period from Real to Boro. However, signing a left winger and (in the summer) a keeper are still more important. Perhaps Wenger's going to go for a Boro double and try and snag the unpopular but underrated Downing as well?
Another thought: does this imply that the Club are more concerned about Toure's injury than we may have thought?

I AGREE THAT WE ARE SECOND FAVOURITES TO GET HIM AS HE IS LIKELY TO BE ASSURED OF A FIRST-TEAM PLACE AT SPURS AND NOT AT ARSENAL. HOWEVER, HE WOULD BE GREAT BACK-UP IF WE DID GET HIM. ALSO, AN ADDED BONUS IS THAT HE IS AVAILABLE FOR EUROPE.
I HEARD SOMETHING ON THE RADIO YESTERDAY WHEN WENGER WAS ASKED WHETHER HE WOULD NEED TO SIGN SOMEONE IF TOURE'S INJURY PROVED MORE SERIOUS THAN FIRST THOUGHT. HIS ANSWER WAS YES, SO THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT THERE. COULD THE TWO THINGS BE RELATED?

I like Richards but being our 3rd choice CB isn't going to help him develop. He's also quite error-prone - a lot of his brilliant saving tackles come after miscontroling or misreading the ball. So, I don't think he's definitely the solution, whereas Woodgate as our third choice CB would definitely fit the bill.Gunnerz4life wrote:Im surprised that we will be going for him. Micah Richards was a far better option if we were ready to spend the cash. He is a gooner, would have been happy to be 3rd choice for now and he isnt injury prone.

ALTHOUGH I CONCUR WITH YOUR SENTIMENTS, I'M NOT SURE THAT THE 'HAPPY TO BE 3RD CHOICE' PART IS CORRECT. AFTER ALL, HE HAS MORE OR LESS ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS THE NEXT ENGLAND RIGHT-BACK IN PLACE OF NEVILLE AND WOULD PROBABLY LOSE THAT POSITION WERE HE TO BE JUST A RESERVE AT ARSENAL.Gunnerz4life wrote:Im surprised that we will be going for him. WAYNO,
HASN'T HE SPLIT FROM THE LOVELY KATE? (WHO BY THE WAY IS A BIG GOONER!!)

At present i agree that Woodgate is a class apart from Richards. But a player like that would never agree to be third choice and to be honest i feel it will be a luxury to have him as third choice. All im saying is if we were ready to spend the cash, Richards would have been a more realistic option. And on the contrary i believe that playing alongside the likes of Gallas now and Toure in the future, can only be good for his development. The kid has the attributes to be a world class centre back.26may1989 wrote:I like Richards but being our 3rd choice CB isn't going to help him develop.
