Beckham 100

Post by Wayno »

Should Beckham have been handed his 100th international cap? Personally I think he should have been. I cannot think of many other countries that would not honour a former captain and icon of the modern game by letting him play in a friendly match that has no real bearing on Englands future success or lack of.

Capello I think would have gained more respect from the media had he given Becks the chsnce to bow out in style and then he (Capello) could have got on with changing my nations fortunes.

Well thats my opinion and I know many will not agree and many couldn't give a shit either way.

it's like poor ol merse, never got to the 100 goal mark
Becks deff should of get/got it, friendly match=pointless
in front of 90,000 at Wembley
to me i respect him the most as a english talent, he gets on my tits at times with his stick wife but pat on the back for trying so hard to get this far in football & doing more than a ok job for club & country
no euro matches of course so why not put him in the side, it's only shitty matches against Phil & France 8) (& oh the germans in November)

In most other countries he would be seen as a national hero and someone to be proud of. Not so here and certainly not with an Italian in charge.

Of course he should have.

I don't know how Capello can argue about his fitness, he's been training with us!!! He might reason that Beckham hasn't been playing, but surely a training run at Arsenal is of a higher standard than an MLS match.

It would have been best for Capello's image in England to give him a run as well, it is only a friendly, and leaving him on 99 might only add pressure to play him in a competitive fixture.

Im gonna disagree with everyone (not just because im working so early on a saturday and im pissed off) i think England need a tough manager who makes his choices without emotion and i think Capello is that type of manager. Lets face it Beckham cant be fit enough if it was any other player there wouldnt be a discussion.

Damn work :)

I dunno flash. Had it been any other player I think it would have been the same. Any player that serves his country as well as Beckham has over the years deserves to get recognition. One five minute spell at the end of a friendly is not too much to ask.

Yeah IMO he should've been given his milestone cap cos no-one has given more to England in the modern era than Beckham, regardless of the standard of his performances you couldn't doubt his commitment it even led to rows with Taggart who couldn't fail to notice that he gave more in a white shirt than a red one!
So I feel Capello could've done the right thing without seeming sentimental, but I s'pose it shows how low England have sunk, that he feels it necessary to deny a former capt. his 100th cap even tho other countries probably would've honoured someone similar in their own ranks altho the media circus that follows Beckham is probably ultimately to blame for Capello's decision!

I think Beckham has a good chance of being called up again, Capello said that Beckham will never play for Real Madrid when the latter signed for LA Galaxy but Cappelo played him because Beckham was needed. Cappelo said this as well:
"I know there has been a lot of discussion about David Beckham," Capello said. "When I spoke with David on the phone yesterday, I advised him that he is still part of my plans and once he is playing regularly in America, we will look closely at him again."

I hate the crunt. I hate all manure crunts.

BUT...

There has to be some room for sentiment in the game. Give him five minutes at the end of a friendly... what's the harm? :?
