I Don’t Want To Go To Wembley! (16/2)

I Don’t Want To Go To Wembley! (16/2)

usual thread starter… there’s no doubt arsene gives the fa cup little value, and the irony is he was taking that approach between 2001 and 2005 when we made four finals! Our hopes are slim this afternoon, but never say never. Still, in truth, if I were a cold-hearted gambler, united look very good odds at evens. If arsenal manage to stay the course in the prem, I don’t think anyone will give a fig about the fa cup. But do you think our performance against Milan on weds night would be affected if we put our strongest team out today?

Think we have to remember that rarely does a club win three trophies in a season - maybe one day but probably not this year.

And Liverpool never won the cup between 1974 and 1986 - were they all the worse off for it?

I want to go to Wembley as I live quite close to it. But with 30 minutes to go and one man (who acts like a woman though) down, I don't think I'll be going

A disgraceful and insulting article. It is still a trophy worth competing for. If Europe and dare I say it, the premiership falls through, what then? It would have been a welcome addition to the cabinet and the most important point is that we can not afford to lose like that to our main rivals. I have barely accepted the score against the **** and now have to face this. It's not the defeat itself, but the manner of it. We could at least have smashed the Mancs and then gone out in the next round if we really think it will help our Premiership and European ambitions.

The author makes a very logical argument.

United play Lyon next week so didn't pick Ronaldo, Tevez or Giggs, probably because they guessed/knew we wouldn't try. Liverpool lost, true, but without Reina, Torres and their talisman Gerrard - how much did it mean to them?

Arsenal are in pole position for the league so that must be first priority and we can't ignore the money/prestige of the Champions League. My guess is you'll see a very different Arsenal performance next Wednesday to the spineless one we had to endure today.

Those two trophies will suit me just fine. The FA Cup is now just a second rate competition. Sad but true.

It's a mute point now but fuckin ell you don't want to go to Wembley you muppet to see us in the cup final. I've been to a few and and no point when when Tony Adams lifted the cup up to us did I think what a waste of money and its going to take me ages to get home! I wasn't even thinking it at Cardiff.

Also what if the champions league final is held there, won't you bother if we get to it. I'd rather we won the league than the cup for sure and I'd love for us to win the Champions league but any of the four bits of silverware are worth winning and a yardstick of sucess. Lets not be like Man U and Chelsea fans who spout that sort of crap and think they are bigger than everyone else.

As for the mental talk about not taking it seriously until the FA show some leadership what is that all about. Still like I said at the begining, a mute point now. Is it me or is Darren Fletcher a wanker!!

It's not that I don't want to go to Wembley. I do. I've seen Arsenal win the FA Cup and League/Littlewoods Cup twice at Wembley and the FA one 3 times in Cardiff. The 2-0 defeat of Chelsea - as they still were back then - was one of the most memorable games ever. So fantastic, especially when Freddie scored. And yes, I'd have loved to have gone to the new Wembley which I now won't for at least another year.

But to compare the FA Cup now to then is like chalk and cheese. It shouldn't be, I agree, but it just is. If we were out of the running for the other competitions it would be different. I know it's hard to believe but the Premier League is now ours to lose; and to see us win that, bearing in mind that this could easily have been another 'transition' season, would be really fantastic and better than a competition that none of the top teams now rate. And that's not even mentioning the Champions League. How would you feel if as a result of putting in more effort yesterday - maybe that should be any effort - we'd lost Alex, Ade or Cesc for next week's Milan game?

By the way, I agree with you about Darren Fletcher. I thought Fergusmoan put him on as the 'headless chicken' sacrifice with a mission to get at or injure a few of our players, because he's not really bothered if he misses a few games - whereas Eboue - despite all the criticisms - is a much bigger loss to our much smaller/depleted squad.
