Wenger’s chickens come home to roost at Old Trafford.(17/2)

Wenger’s chickens come home to roost at Old Trafford.(17/2)

usual thread starter – if arsenal manage to win the league, then the memory of this match will fade. But critically, the manager cannot be under any illusion that certain players have anything further to offer the club. In the summer, it’s the exit door for Hoyte, Eboue and Gilberto. Traore can go out on loan somewhere and play a season to see if his problem is simply inexperience (clichy had an inauspicious game against United in the 2004 semi). Bendtner looked poor, but we’ve seen him play much better, so I am not sure about him. Your views welcomed…

If he did then he should come out and apologise to the fans.

Other commitments or not, losing to them is unacceptible under all circumstanses. If you can't pick yourselves up for this game what games can you do it for?

an apology or a refund to those who travelled up there should be given

not only have they paid the usual extortionate ticket price plus the cost of travel and other stuff programme etc .

that yesterday has to be probably the most disgraceful arsenal performance i have ever seen in 30 years.

an utter shambles

I think we have to remember that we've come a long way in 12 months - we've exceeded by far the expectations that we had in August.

The trouble with such a relatively inexperienced side is that it is still prone to such things as we saw yesterday.

My forecast for the rest of the season is that we'll probably exit the Champions League also at some point - I can't see us winning it.

The League I think the month or so around easter will be the critical point, but we'll hold off the challenge and still win it - must be remembered that it is still only the 3rd defeat all season in all competitions

I think that's some exagerration - we had a 6-1 up there in 2001, 6-1 at Everton in 1985, 4-0 at Liverpool in 2000, 4-0 in Moscow a few years ago, 5-0 at WHL in 1983 - there's been a lot worse - though we really didn't look like scoring.

Great manager that Wenger is, he sometimes doesn't seem to understand the mindset of real fans. Just this week he has stated that the 39th game played abroad would be a good idea when anyone with any football sense knows that the whole idea is crazy.
He then plays a weakened team against our biggest rivals. It doesn't matter who we are playing next week, when you're playing Man Utd in the 5th round of the F.A. cup you play your STRONGEST TEAM AVAILABLE!!!! All week I've been thinking "Please don't play a weakened team". And then the moment of truth. As soon as any of us saw the team sheet we know what's going to happen. It's the spuds semi-final again!! If Flamini and Adeybayour are fit for the bench they're fit to play!
I watched it until the first goal and then couldn't stand it any more. I don't think Wenger realises how much us fans need to get results against Man Utd. I watched the Highlights ( ? ? ) on Match of the day and it was even more embarrassing than we could have predicted. The sending off, Adeybayour's dive...a complete shambles in front of a BBC audience.
It's O.K. to play some of these youngsters against lesser Premiership teams or lower league teams but against quality opposition they are completely out of their depth. We've got money to spend Arsene and we're a big club. We need some quality players to step in when injuries occur. Please get the cheque book out in the summer!

Old Trafford Humiliation

Post by Rainham Red »

I agree entirely,I can`t remember being so embarrassed as our performence yesterday.Eboue is a diver with a nasty streak and should be got rid of.Gallas is our captain and should be an example to the rest of the team but his sly kick at Nani may have not been seen by the referee but was seen by TV so no doubt he will get a ban just when we are coming into the crucial period of the season.I was one of the 9000 mugs who paid good money spent ten hours travelling and watched my team play without heart or pride.I don`t want a refund or an apology I just want the team to beat AC Milan on wednesday and go back to Old Trafford in April and beat the bastards by playing them off the park.

I doubt Arsene told his players to play like that. No self-respecting manager would do such thing and no manager commands the respect Arsene deserves. United started on the front foot and our weakened back four just couldn't handle it. Toure just got back from Africa, Gallas had a poor game overall and Hoyte and Traore are just not Sagna and Clichy. Our problem primarily began in defence who not only couldn't stop the ball from going past them but also couldn't move the ball forward.

It's true Bendtner had a poor game but a striker can only do so much if he doesn't get the service.

Arsene never said the 39th game was a good idea. All he said was he was surprised there was so much opposition to it without people even knowing the complete details of the plans. It's like anything else you don't agree with. Don't just flat out call it idiotic and move on. Hear the person out and see what they have to say first before you make your judgement.

As for the game? We bounced back after the 5-1 loss to the Scum and we can bounce back from this. We'll get 'em in the league.

I've just been watching the Sunday Supplement on Sky. It seems Wenger told the press on Friday he felt the depth of our squad was sufficient to compete in only 2 of 3 competitions - no guessing which was No 3, even before what happened yesterday.

Whilst I sympathise with everyone who made the journey yesterday to see Arsenal wave the whilte flag - I had a ticket but (fortunately) at the last minute couldn't go and had to watch it on TV - at least our policy of non-combat ensured we have a full complement to pick from for Wednesday.

The FA Cup is totally devalued. It's only of value as a consolation prize if you've been knocked out of everything else. remember last year's boring non-event between Chelski and ManUre? Look at the teams put out yesterday by not just us - but by Chelski, the Scousers and yes, even the Ronaldoless, Giggsless, Tevezless ManUre. OK, if we fail to beat Milan then Wenger's gamble yesterday of allowing the FA Cup to disappear without a fight will have failed, but if we get a good result against AC Milan - and I think we will - yesterday will be consigned by me to just one of those things that happen along the way.

Meanwhile I'll support Arsene; and take my chances with the Premier and Champions Leagues and leave the Cinderella cups to the likes of Barnsley, Bristol Rovers and WBA. That's the least they deserve for ensuring the competition survives at all.

what really fucking annoys me is why do we seem to get a hammering of them

6-1 up there
4-2 at highbury a few years back
4-0 yesterday
6-2 league cup at highbury

whenever we beat them in a big game its either 1-0 0r 2-1
i just we could give them a spanking for a change like newcastle did 5-0 a few years ago.

To be fair to Hoyte he was completly exposed by his midfield and the senior players next to him (Kolo & Gallas) weren't exactly filling the youngsters with confidence.
Iv seen Hoyte play very well and I think people have been a bit quick to critisise him, also what mug thought it would be a good idea to have him markin Rooney on that corner.

The rest I agree with, Complete lack of commitment, and Wenger should apologise and so should Gallas. They are blind to what these games mean to us fans. Until Flamini came on we had no bite at all.

Have a Heart

Post by cpmarkw »

Where the fuck was the heart, the fight to win- anyone notice Man U copied scum- simple tactic:
jump on us quick in midfield or defence-we make mistakes-fast ball to sprinters or defence splitting pass-how simple is that????

3 goals were headers for fuck sake - send em to hackney marshes for a month!!!!!!

were is the squad-------

ok so we dont spend AGAIN and guess what our squad lacks depth compared to teams that do!!!

is any of this difficult to work out if youve watched football for a year or more

Even if we win league-like last two times we dont strengthen--what do we learn??????????

Come on Gunners we are top three BUT WE COULD BE OUT OF SIGHT IF WE LEARN!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say so.

We beat them 4-0 in the League Cup in 2001 - weakened side and demand for tickets was so low I got in for free, but still.

We beat them I think 3-0 when Freddie scored on his debut in 1998.

Also in days gone by a 3-0 in the late 70s, 4-0 in 1970.
