Why should fans bother supporting Arsenal in Cups? (17/2)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Why should fans bother supporting Arsenal in Cups? (17/2)

Usual thread starter… did you go to Old Trafford? If you did, let’s say Arsenal got drawn away to Man Utd again in the FA Cup next season… would you go again?

I wouldn't say so. Being a supporter is one thing - spending a heck of a lot of money to travel half the country, plus taking up most of a weekend to get to and from - that's another. And if people feel that Arsenal didn't do enough yesterday they're right to complain.

Im quite adept to opinions but yesterdays result has got me thinking so much it would bve criminal to myself not to rant. First of all i echo most when i say we were an absolute disgrace yesterday. Even the players you would expect to perfrom like Gallas and Hleb were awful. However my biggest criticisms are obvious but the first one has not been spoken of enough in recent weeks. Physicality. Teams would often berate us for our lack of physical toughness (Blackburn always springing to mind). Well yesterday there was none. we let Man United bully us into submission. Players like Kolo and Gallas were literally barged out of the way and made Man United ariel threat look all the more dominating. Up front we had about as much creation as a bowl of bran flakes without milk. Why the fuck are we still playing Bendtner. Hes a joke. Eddie was drowning out there. Gilberto has finally done all he can for football and I think yesterday was the final nail i was waiting for. He held it off well enough but its time to say goodbye Gilberto. Lets hope we can send him packing with a Champions medal but dont hold your breath. I thought Hleb lacked creation and the one thing hes best at he just didnt seem to do and thats hold the ball. Eboue was just plain dog ***** as always and im sick of seeing him in an arsenal shirt. There was no point bringing on Adebayor. Im worried it may have damaged his mental game slightly by not getting a goal but if its like Tottenham it may rile him up to smash other teams.

My only mention to a player goes to Jens Lehmann who I thought had a damn good game given he had no fucking coverage whatsoever. He made some great saves and desperately tried to keep it respectable. If he had, had a howler just think what we may have walked away from. Well done Jens, you showed passion and spirit when the rest of the team just didnt seem fucking bothered. Lets hope we can prove to Milan it was a one off but you can be damn sure the Italians were watching and laughing hysterically at how porr we were. Get your act together Arsene and for once it wouldnt hurt to just say we were poor instead of hiding the facts again.

Lastly I just wanna say to every Arsenal fan who went yesterday who stayed till the end and particulary all the guys right at the back of the upper tier with me, you were amazing and a credit to the club. You people are my family and I love you guys to pieces. Its just a damn shame that barely anyone on the pitch (bar the ever passionate Flams) recognised your efforts and contributions.

We havent done badley in the cups under Wenger, even in the Carling cup we do pretty well.
I think this is an over exaggeration because of the recent defeats.

1. the problem is that becasue there is so much money in the game now the reserve team players are not bothered when they get their chance. they pick up their 20,000 - 30,000 a week for bench warming then play probabaly 10 - 15 games.

2. i am too sick of eboue he is an absolute disgrace and should never wear an arsenal shirt again. we only took the lead in the champions league final through him diving for a free kick. he is a petulant arragont little tosser and a cheat. his tackle was awful and quite rightly sent off.

3. as for arsene wenger to come out and say that is disgusting and i am too getting fed up with it. he said after the spurs shambles the same as he always says "the boys will learn from this" etc etc .so 3 weeks after spurs what have they learnt ?. how to take a beating and play like a complete bunch off tossers. only 2 players on that pitch deserve any credit and that is flamini and eduardo.
flamini played 10 minutes and showed more fight and spirit than the rest did in 90 minutes.

its about time that clubs managers and players started to have a bit more respect for the people who pay their wages.

i think arsenal should refund the money of all the 9,000 supporters that travelled up there yesterday

an utter shambles.

The wins against Newcastle, Blackburn and Sheff Utd in the Carling were brilliant. Burnley and Newcastle in the FA Cup were reasonably good too. We were really unlucky to be drawn away at ManUre with so many injuries and AC Milan only 4 days away. I think Arsene had little choice but to treat it as a Training game. Apparently he effectively said as much at Friday's press briefing, but I do feel for the 9000 who, like Mark, had to endure the journey, the cost and the humiliation of yesterday.

Damn right I will be going again.

Last night hurt a lot. But that's what being a gooner is all about. Don't bottle out just cos we lost a game.

ARSENAL TILL I DIE.

The old trafford was a debacle. I agree pretty much with most of what is said here.
Given the total lack of commitment shown by the players, with the exception of Lehmann and Eduardo, I think it should be a consideration by the club to offer some re-imbursement to the travelling gooners. If you are simply not going to try, then dont sell 9000 tickets.

I have tried to see the positives of Eboue recently, despite many gripes about his attitude. I'm sorry but after Saturday he should be sidelined and Wenger should have admitted that his tackle was an embarassing shocker.

Before we totally disregard the cups, remember how much pleasure and pride we got from the carling cup last season, and some of this one. The team on Saturday was not a "carling cup team", they were just spineless on the day.

Hopefully this time next week we will be feeling more positive. We need to bounce back, and quick.

This is ludicrous!!! You either support arsenal or you don't. i understand if people have other reasons for not going, but this is beyond stupid. I was at Old Trafford and no we were awful but everyone is human. We should think ourselves lucky it was that game we lost and no a prem tie or wednesday nights game.

We got to the semi-final of the carling cup this year and up until the spurs hammering our youthful line-up were a joy to which and nobody was complaining, but as soon as something goes wrong people jum to conclusions. They are young and have a lot to learn and what they need right now is the support of the fans. If the fans show support then they will inspire confidence.

Another thing, football is about ups and downs. You have to have some downs to enjoy the ups. We now have the best chance we will get in a very long time to win the league, so perhaps losing to the mancs was not the worst result in the world. However, i agree that this is no excuse for the performance that the boys put out.

Win, lose or draw we are all arsenal fans. It is when we lose that the eam need support more, so they can bounce back because we are the best team in england and with the support i think that we will win the league. It showed after the spurs event, we had great support and we won our next four games. So get behind the boys!!!!

All credit to Barnsley but I've not seen any criticism of Liverpool for not trying - yet they left out Torres, Gerard and Reina, which is much the same thing, isn't it?

I feel the need to defend the Ed here. I don't think he is suggesting that the fans should desert the team. The point, though, is a valid one. Arsenal expect us to buy tickets for all these games (and the FA Cup is still full price and part of the season ticket). If the Manager doesn't treat the FA Cup with the importance that it merits then why should we bother to pay all that money? I would go no matter what the team selection, and I'm sure the Ed would as well, but it doesn't mean we have to be happy about the Manager publicly stating his intention to "concentrate" on the other competitions. These guys get paid thousands of pounds per week to kick a football, the least they can be expected to do is give it their all to try and win every game in every competition.

We have not won a trophy since 2005. If Wenger thinks Arsenal are in a position to go throwing chances away then it shows an insane arrogance that could well be biting us on the arse in a few weeks from now.
