PSV AT THE GROVE

Post by Gooner_mojo »

It's going to be a tense and nervy affair at the Grove on Wednesday night, without doubt our biggest game of the season so far.

Just heard that Henry is fit which is a boost, as he can be the match winner we need at the moment. Personally, I think and hope we'll do it but only just. An early goal is the key.

What does everyone else reckon?

(And by the way everyone get right behind the boys!! Full vocal support is needed!!!)

I agree, we need to hit em hard early on - steamroller in the first ten mins like we did a few years back to everyone. If we get an early goal they may open up. We shouldnt fear this bunch - we were 15 mins from being champions last May - we're the best club side in the world on our day - lets do em!

An early goal is important - but not conceding one is the key! If we do, then we'll need three and this lot don't concede many.... Hopefully everyone (including the contributors to this forum...) will be patient!!! I think we'll be sick as parrots by the end of the evening - but will be over the moon if I'm proved wrong!!!

I think they most likely result is 0-0 :( If we can't breach a Blackburn defence over 180 minutes when they shut up shop we've got little chance against this lot!

We need the following:

1) Patience - we can't start rushing passes from the 70th minute onwards

2) Long Range shooting - We are long over due a screamer and it might be our only chance of getting through quickly

3) No wasted opportunities! I reckon we'll get 3-4 good chances during the 90 minutes we need one or preferably 2 to go in!

4) Henry to be on top form - I don't want any of this half injured crap, if he's fit he's fit, if he's not then don't play him!

5) A bit of luck and the loudest noise that ashburton has ever witnessed!!! Come on you goooooners :!: :!: :x :!: :!: :x :!: :!: :!: :!: :x

I feel we need to play this formation:

Lehmann
Eboue Toure Gallas Clichy
Hleb Fabregas Gilberto Freddie
Henry/Beast Adebayor

Theo should come on for Freddie or Hleb to test the tired legs of PSV and so should the Beast/Henry to try and put Alex out of the game

COME ON YOU FUCKING GUNNERS!

I'm afraid eboue is injured, personally, as i expect us to only get hit on the break i'd go for

Almunia (he is better at one on ones which is more likely on a
break)

Gallas Toure Clichy

Giblerto
Theo Hleb Fabregas Freddie

Henry Adebayor

I dont think we need 4 defenders because they will hardly be used, hleb can thread things for theo and trikers and fabregas can thread things for freddie and strikers. Gilberto can sit back to make sure he slows down any quick counter attack and it will allow the other 4 midfielders to concentrate on getting the goals and he can drop into defence for set pieces. Gallas in comfortable at right back and centre so he will cope there, we have toure's pace in the middle and clichy is natural on the left, only negative is we lose his attacking in this formation unless he can go forward and gilberto drops into the 3 at the back as and when that happens

Any thoughts?

If things get desperate then we will prob switch to a back 3 or back 2! But I don't think Wenger will start with a back 3, don't think he ever has? Plus we need a back 4 as PSV, like all Dutch teams play wingers and with a back 3 their wingers will cause havoc by stretching us.

I'm a bit concerned about Henry's fitness though. Wenger said we'll know after the game if he's got rid of his injury or not but that might be too late!? It could be a gamble playing him if he hasn't practiced for 2 weeks, but hopefully it's a gamble that pays off! But we need experience heads tonight.

COME ON ARSENAL!!!

3-5-2? Never, rubbish formation. Could go 4-3-3 if we need the goal. I keep thinking 3-1 but I've got a horrible feeling we are going out, maybe 0-0 or 1-1.

What makes you say rubbish DT? 5 across the middle got us to the final last year and rather than having 1 up 4 back, we need goals so its 2 up 3 back, makes perfect sense to me, who would you have in a 4-3-3?

I like to think we are gonna win, but same thats been said above have a horrid feeling that we will go out. Henry is not playing, we are playing Adebayor and Baptista upfront.

Please lads, prove me wrong

No successful teams play 3-5-2. We got to the final playing 4-5-1 not 3-5-2. 4-5-1 becomes 4-3-3 on the attack or even 4-2-4.

Anyway we are out!
