I'm a great believer in the old maxim, that poor refereeing decisions even themself out over the course of the season. But this year....
In the last few weeks there was the blatant penalty not given for us at Brum, followed by the referee ignoring the defenders touch on the ball and giving them the chance to equalise in the last minute. Two points stolen! Then there was Ade's goal against Boro - incorrectly ruled out for offside, followed by Alialialialidiers goal having come from an offside position. Two points stolen!
Then the blatant penalty not given to us in last Wednesday game at the Grove. Everyone agreed...accept the ref. And the same on Saturday - another two stolen points! And then tonight....Plonderous gets booked for nothing. Mascherano commits 4 fouls worthy of a booking and yet comes away scott free. And the final disgrace...Babel desperate stumble/dive on the edge of the box, and you just know what the referee is going to do.
Ok, so easy to point the finger at Ade's missed chance. Or the two pieces of slack marking from Ponderous. But at the end of the day, the tie hinged on the back of two extremely poor refereeing decisions and, unsurprisingly, neither went our way....

There is surely no disputing that we have have shit decisions given against us over the last couple of months.
Those decisions have robbed us of the chance to win the two major competions.
It should NOT happen this way. To ANY team.
I am fucking disgusted by it all.
When, oh when, is football going to join the 21st century, and have video playbacks for the referees to judge properly. Same as rugby and cricket?

Yes we have been unlucky with key calls, when your attacking, not much you can do about wrong calls. When your defending, you can do a lot more. Brummie, Almunia could do better to stop freekick, Flamini and Clichy could have done a lot better then end up risking a dodgy call inside the box, Aston Villa and Boro we have to play to the whistle and we either didn't or we just were plain rubbish dealing with danger
Liverpool, we lost the tie as we conceded 5, four of them preventable on part. Not due to bad luck, which ok we did have bad luck, not due to our attack, not due to ref penalty calls

Does anyone else think that the 2 legs of a champions league match should have the same ref for both games? The 2 legs in theory should be managed the same by the same ref therefore giving equal bearing on the home advantage, crowd etc. What one ref would give for a penalty another wouldnt and the end of the 1st leg is effectively half time
Agree with Rebel and Magic we have blown it no conspiracy

I am certain that we have fallen foul of quite a few bad decisions recently. We cannot blame our collapse on them entirely but it is fair to say they have been a contributing factor. The one thing I believe is that they are mistakes not cheating. I think the officials have been pretty poor recently but not overtly dishonest.
But why did they let him drive the car when they knew he'd been drinking....whoops, sorry. Thought we were back to Diana....!
Good idea about having the same ref for both legs. The ref for the game at the Grove would not have given the penalty at Anfield.
But we did ultimately get knocked out of the Champions League because of mistakes by the ref - all of which were in Liverpool's favour. FACT. Ok, so I wasn't surprised that the ref gave it. But the replays proved for me that it was the wrong decision, and as for "Toure was all over his back..." well I think the TV replay showed that there was little if any contact and that it was 50:50 at best! You can argue that we shouldn't let players get into our box (was it Clichy or Cesc who had the chance to foul Babel outside the box?) or that we should have scored more goals and not relied on penalties not given - but facts are facts, and video evidence proves that even without a great performance in either match, we should be playing Chelsea in the semi.
And, tenementfunster5, why do you think that video evidence (if it were allowed at all) wouldn't have applied in those cases? Whether a defender got a touch to the ball, or a handful of the strikers shirt, or whether there was any contact made - are all matters of fact not subjective matters of interpretation like, for instance, the intent in a tackle that results in injury!!
