Baptista's substitution

Baptista's substitution

Post by brady »

Did anyone catch the strange exchange between Wenger and Baptista as the latter was subbed at Villa Park? It seemed that Baptista was not too happy at being pulled off, and asked Wenger about it. Wenger seemed to suggest that he thought Baptista was injured, and Baptista seemed surprised and appeared to say that he was fine. And then Gary Lewin sort of shrugged his shoulders to say, "It wasn't me mate"... :D

I think I'm the only person who wants to keep the Beast. Anyone with me?

I want to keep him too. I know he's been very poor this season, but how many other players have has slow starts only then to go on to become legends.

Stats do not lie, at Sevilla he scored more than one in two, so he is capable of finding the back of the net regularly. Give him more time, I am sure he will come good.

I think Baptista is class, we missed out on him last year didn't we? We're lucky to get him and I reckon he'll come good. I can't really tell what happened with the substitution, I think it looked like he wasn't happy to come off, but who knows!!

Why keep a player who is not good enough.Yes he did well at Seville but so did Reyes. What happens to Bendtner if we keep Baptista?

I think it's too early to say he's not good enough. As I said, he has had a slow start but I think the quality is there. He's been given what, 8 premiership starts? Some people take time to settle in and I think he deserves more time. Do I need to name other players who had slow starts but went on to become great players?

I think it's nore impressive to score goals in La Liga rather than the championship. Yes Bendtner is scoring goals which is good but c'mon they ain't exactly difficult to come by down there. The beast needs a pre season under Wenger and then we can judge him.

Don't think Baptista should stay. Saw 2 good games, one against a second rate Liverpool team and then against Tottenham (where he scored for both teams), if he don't come good by the end of the season I think we should send him back to Spain and cash in on Reyes.

One thing about the whole Beast-Reyes deal that bugs me is the fact that we paid £15million quid for reyes and the beast is apparantly gunna cost us 8. why arent we getting the beast and money from madrid?
did we pay the massive amount of money we did for reyes without any type of bye out clause in his contract?
The minimum we should get is a straight swap!
Leaving Wenger with the £20million kitty for BRAND new players.
If we have to spend any of that budget on baptista that is bad bad business by the club.

The Wiltord situation was worse, £10 million wasn't he? Ended up going on a free.
I don't think Wenger knew that Reyes was going to go all home sick and only play well late summer and spring. You have to hand it to Baptista, you haven't heard him whinging about the weather, the early closing bars and restaurants etc. He does try and to be honest I would cut my losses and lose Reyes in return for the Beast.

Baptista and Reyes. One big bloke, one little bloke, but one thing they have in common is that they both spend a lot of time sitting on the grass. Baptista because he gets beaten by blokes smaller than him and Reyes because he goes to ground, arms up, appealing to the ref whilst the game goes on, if anyone dares brush his shirt. I was glad to see Reyes go and I do NOT want him back. Baptista has a lot of time now to prove himself, with TH and RvP out, so I hope he can do it. If he doesn't then it's got to be goodbye. I want third place!

The jury is still out on the beast for me. He has shown his class on occassions, but has been poor on others. There are 2 questions: Where does he fit into the 1st team? And if not, will he be happy to be a back up player? I'm not so sure at the moment.

But I'll leave this one to the Professor as ARSENE KNOWS.
