Avram Grant
Avram Grant
I'm pretty bias, so i want to hear what you guys think of Avram Grant.
A lot people in the UK claim that there is no real manager at Chelsea. I think there is one and he has done much better than everybody (including me) expected him to do.
I wouldn't take him to Arsenal, but i think he has shown quality and he is one of the best managers in engalnd.
Do you guys agree?

khalid have you got a picture of the thing with all the eyes in lilo and stitch thats his real lookalikekhalid_red wrote:He makes great lookalikes
Wenger, Fergie, Moyes, Rafa, Hughes, Sven, O'Neill, Ramos and Harry would all do as good a job as him if not better, in my opinionhe is one of the best managers in engalnd.
Jose didn't do a better job in terms of the CL, yet he is still listed with the best managers in the world. I think Grant will win one trophy this season and it would be even better for him, if he wins two.
By the way, if any of you wondered why Grant had a black arm band on him, it's because in it's holocaust memorial day today in Israel.

Grant's job is easy...decide which world class £20m+ players to pick....and sit back and watch as they bore him to tears...but ultimately grind out a win for him
I would say time will tell whether he's a great manager or not...but how can it? with a radiculously expensive squad at his disposal (that Mourinho has already moulded into a winning side) ...and the prospect of a summer waving about Abramovich's blank cheques...what can we learn about Grant???
The Chelsea job isn't a place to prove you're a top manager...you either win the trophies that Abramovich has paid for..or get sacked.
Strange job really

We all THINK we could do a better job than Grant..but could we really?
We all THINK we could do a better job than Wenger too..it is why we spend ages on here typing up our opinions.
History will judge Grant over a few seasons.
On the basis of this season it is very hard to tell as it is mainly Mourinho's team.
One thing I do know is that most football fans would do a decent job strategically with the right players and the shape of a team.
Most fans would do ok tactically regarding substitutions.
Quite how we would do regarding "man management" is another matter.
Very few of us who have not played the game professionally would be able to coach.
My proof is read Frank Mclintock's article in new Arsenal official magazine. He describes various tactics and techniques used in defence...and it is way more complex than a layman could imagine.
[For the record Daniel the UK TV commentators did mention the Yom HaShoah Holocaust memorial day]

The press don't seem to like Grant much. The loss of the charismatic and paper worthy Jose, whatever the rights and wrongs of his sacking, was a blow . To then be replaced by a man who they hadn't heard of and who clearly wasn't going to call people voyeur's or accused the ref of being biased, the press were unhappy. So they sought reasons to hammer him
1) He is a friend of Roman and it just plain neptoisim, of sorts, to use him over Jose.
There was reason to fire Jose and possibly should have been done last summer rather then early on in the season. Now big names were expected but Grant knew the club by now, he wasn't someone who was going to stir up the press or be a jerk, he was willing to give attacking football and he had a good record as a manager. He was a decent choice underneath all the hullabaloo, it was his intelligence as a manager that won over Roman back in Israel years before.
2) He hasn't managed at a high level
So? If he has ability, he has ability. Arsene had spent his years in Japan, Mark Hughes had less experience, Colemen/Southgate/Keane/Pearce/Hughings/Lee has none whatsoever, Megson was a lower league manager with mixed record, Moyes was a lower league manager, Sanchez of Fulham had a record like Grant's only less successful. Not all managers come from big leagues, some will do well some won't.
Grant meanwhile had managed his country, which is a pretty high level, and shut out France twice, had we been facing a Grant Israel side then I think England's campaign in Euro 2008 would have been even worse. When Grant was hired, the likes of Arsene spoke up for him which the press were confused by so they went to Harry Redknapp. Turns out that despite everything, Harry liked Grant and thought he would be good which must have annoyed the press, where was the scandal!
3) He is just a pet
Bit harsh on Grant, he was bound to be more conciliatory towards the others at the club as few are as brash as Jose. Grant knows that he will be sacked if he can't produce results so he has no reason to listen to stupid idea's
4) This is all Ten Cates great work, Grant is useless
Yes, the man behind Ajax's humiliation is indeed the grand master of Chelsea. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure Cates did do important job at Barca and Chelsea but he wouldn't be hired if they thought he wouldn't add anything to the backroom staff
5) Grant can't win big games
well a CL semi, Arsenal and Man U have proven that one wrong
6) He isn't playing attacking football
Yes, because Jose left him with a squad full of flair. Not like he sold off the likes of Robben and brought in the likes of Maloda or anything the great Jose
Now this season will only get the humiliated wolves off his back, clearly things aren't right in the dressing room still and he needs to show he can build an attractive side when the summer transfer window opens and the mass clearout begins. He deserves his chance and I hope he rubs the journalists noses in it

Interesting, is it time to give Avram Grant the respect he deserves (having recently beaten Wenger, Ferguson & Benitez) or is he simply proving what everybody suspects; that any idiot could manage that team to success given the players already there and the limitless funds?
Despite his recent high-profile victories I'm still leaning toward the latter. But maybe that's just me being bitter.
