Oh well, third place it is then for us and the title will be decided on the last game  I was really hoping that Newcastle would turn Chelsea over and give us the opportunity to finish second but alas it was not to be

As we sit now we are 4 points behind the 2 teams fighting it out for the title  That run of drawn games killed us off for sure  However we all know where the weak links in our team are such as Eboue and Phil, we were not too far away from the big hitters and we will finish well above Liverpool :D

If we had given it a better tilt then we may well have won even with a winger who scores no goals and a defender who can't defend  A cry baby Captain and a crocked striker who's scoring we sadly missed

I know Wenger needs to spend wisely but I wonder if the team, with a bit of subtle tinkering, is that far away from the team Wenger has promised us all for so long :?

A Goalie, defender, midfielder, winger and a striker, spine basically, could see us give it a go next year :o Or am I being too optimistic

Yes, Green Gooner, I'm afraid you may be a little too optimistic. We certainly need to strengthen the squad, but not just by the odd player. We need cover in every area of the pitch in my opinion. Just look at the bench Chelsea has in every match - and Man United as well. Both clubs have strength in depth and a good blend of youth and experience. We have a lot of talented youth, few experienced players, and very little to back it up.
That's why we have ended up third instead of winning the Premiership and possibly the Champion's League, which is what the team's quality of football deserved.
The trouble is, I don't think we will see an influx of players over the summer. Too many tempting fat wages to be had elsewhere.

I hold my hands up Herbert, I am trying to put a bit of spin on our league campaign  But had we even turned some of those drawn games into wins we would be champions and it would be Wengers finest hour 8)

Yes it would have papered over some obvious cracks but, and this is my point, with a few shrewd buys I wonder are we that far away :? Hey friend, we did better than the much hyped , big spending Liverpool :o

Sure, we have players I don't rate at all but knowing Wenger has no pot of gold, I hope we can make the right moves in the market to go some way towards bridgeing the gap.

I would love Huntelaar or Villa etc but we all know it aint gonna happen

It's also worth pointing out the end of a record.

One of the proudest boasts of the team of the early 70s, regularly cited by Bob Wilson in particular, was that they finished first or second in at least one competition every year from 1968 to 1973.

That has been eclipsed in the present era as we finished first or second in at least one competition every year from 1997/98 to 2006/07. But, after 10 years, this season we have failed to achieve even a second place in anything this year.
