Senderos
Senderos
I'd like to come out in defence of Big Phil. In the 13 starts and 2 sub appearances that he's had in the league this season we've lost a grand total of zero. In fact we only lost two games with Senderos in the team, away to both Sevilla and Liverpool in the Champions League.
When Toure was busy on ACN duty, Senderos was a rock for us. He makes a mistake against Liverpool in the Quarter Finals and everyones calling him absolutely useless again. Completely overlooking the number of mistakes that Toure makes and to a lesser extent Gallas.
Give the man a break. If anything we should get rid of Djourou, he's so scared of making a mistake that he pretty much refuses to for anything near a 50-50 challenge. At least Senderos has the courage and strength of character to take chances.
It annoys me that there are so few fans out there that actually see that he isn't as bad as he is made out to be. Once again it goes to show you that people place more meaning in reputations than actual stats and ability.

The defeat to Middlesborough and Liverpool would suggest that Toure also loses it in big games. Should we let him go too?ko king wrote:i got to say he has been ok of late, but i,m so not a sendros fan!!!!
i think he loses it in big games!!
i would like to see him replaced
sorry!!!
How about Gallas losing it in the game against Birmingham?

Toure is good enough and has proven it (invincibles season, etc.). Big Phil's form comes and goes. When he's good, he's pretty good. When he's bad, he's Cyganesque. Bottom line - he's a liability. You never quite know which Senderos you're going to get on the pitch, so the sooner he goes, the better.
I'm keeping faith in the man and I hope Wenger does as well. He's better than both Song and Djourou.
And to be totally honest with you, not one of our centre backs fills me with confidence. At least the likes of Senderos has time to iron out his problems. Gallas' problems seem terminal. And the only thing I can think of that stands a chance of ridding Toure of his flaws is the captaincy.

I could be wrong, but wasn't Lehmann in goal for much of Senderos' January run? I think having a quality keeper installs more confidence in the defence and mops up some of the mistakes. I also bet that the other defenders and Flamini, Cesc etc have to work that little bit harder to compensate for Senderos' pace. Senderos is ok in europe when the pace is slower (e.g. against Milan) but most opposition know his pace is a weakness and exploit it a la Torres.
