WHY AM I NOT EXCITED?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

WHY AM I NOT EXCITED?

Post by gus ceasar is a legend »

I keep reading the threads about Nasri and some other fella from Italy whose name sounds like a love lubricant and Ihave yet to even break into a smile!

Now I am sure these fellas are good (as you know I refuse to judge by YouTube) but none of us was heralding them as the players we needed to buy before the rumour mill started! That tells me that we are getting all excited over players that frankly none of us gave to hoots about before the gossip started in the press.

Now though, once we are linked with them, it appears that they are the greatest thing since the proverbial sliced loaf!

Now I know I will be called a pessimist but I am not going to get my hopes up over 20 odd year olds with little track record. Potential yes I am sure they have but only two weeks ago we was all crying out for signings who can make an immediate impact.

How did Hleb fair in his first season, didn't make many waves did he, or since frankly!

I wanna feel the lift we had when we signed a Bergkamp, a Pires or even a Campbell! A statement of intent!

Ho hum...........excuse me while I go top myself!

 8)

I'm gusssing it beacuse fo the 'out of sight, out of mind'

Not a lot of people on here watch french league football very often so not a lot of people on here would be too familiar with these players. That dosn't make them a worse player than the familiar face's we regulary see in the champs league, and at the end of the day, thats what scout's are for. To look at the players that no one else see's.

I partially agree with you Gus. I'd hardly heard of Nasri before this week. But after doing my research 8) I think he sounds promising! Dubbed as the next Zidane.
Plus If your a bit like Khalid, he has nice hair

Im also excited about Vela, I think he's 'Gunner' Be great!!

So chear up Gus, its a sign of intent from le Boss.

Gus, in my opinion, you feel like that because of all the disappointments you felt in the last three seasons or so.

Big promises like Rosicky and Hleb came and didn't really made an impact, so you might think that Nasri will be the same (for the record, I didn't see Nasri play), I really don't know.
What I do know is that sir Wenger knows what is wrong in our team and if he assumes Nasri might get us more goals from the midfield, there's no point in arguing, only time will tell.

We have a great team already, we showed a lot of quality this season, in my opinion, all we need is just a little push and we'll be up there chasing all trophies.
I wanna feel the lift we had when we signed a Bergkamp, a Pires or even a Campbell! A statement of intent!
Which current player we can sign will give you the feeling you were talking about? Where should he play?

Hmmm good question Daniel and if I am honest I am not entirely sure!

Someone of Eto's stature in the game, been there, proven and a world star! Although not necessarily him, that kind of signing would be a huge shot in the arm. Its names like this that show the statement of intent I speak of.

We missed out on the wide players last year I believe with Ribery and Malouda (although I accept he has been shit so far at Chelsea, which by the way is another reason I worry about Nasri, direct comparisson hey) and I will say I would have liked Hargreaves at out club, more so now as a great replacement for Flamini.

This year nobody truely strikes me but I would take Wright-Phillips still at the right price and defianately Gareth Barry.

If AC love Flamini so much I would gladly have Gattuso and despite the majority of opinion I would welcome back Anelka!

You will notice that all have experience in British football as I firmly believe that we need whoever we sign to hit the ground running as we cannot afford a fourth "transistional" season!

I can't see Hargreaves (worth the 18 mil?) or Malouda (being shit and everything) being successful at Arsenal. On the other hand, I totally agree about Ribery, we should have signed him, and we missed a great player.

When I talked to Arsenal fans and asked them about Anelka when he was linked to us, 90% said they want a player like Anelka, but not Anelka himself. Same goes for Eto'o, I want a player at his calibre, but not Eto'o, who seems like someone that looks for trouble.

Gus, would David Villa from Valencia be a satisfying signing?

'We want a name' WHY DO WE? Id rather have someone relitively unknown but of good class than someone weve heard of that is on the way down!
