Biggest big name flop?
Biggest big name flop?
who had so much potential but never lived up to it
for me its Javier Saviola. this guy is brilliant when he plays but never gets a food run of games, had a really good world cup few years back and now madrid are selling him after a season. even when ruud and raul were out he barely got played. and when he did he scored. feel sorry for the guy.
for arsenal its hard to say, maybe baptista, cant think of many. suker?

Jose Antonio Reyes - I really thought he was going to be as good as Thierry When he first signed for us. I remember when he came on against Man City he showed so much promise and then that performance against Chelsea.
Shame really because all the initial signs where there that he was going to be the future of the club, especially at the start of the 2004/5 season when he was banging them in for fun

malouda chelski
anelka everywhere on from north london
i dont think reyes was that bad and he werent a big name he just cost a bit more than usual, and he didnt have much to live up to. we knew itd take him a few years and we didnt get that.

I wouldnt consider Wright as a total flop - i just dont think he was patient enough. I still believe had he waited a couple of years he would have been given an extended run.NBM wrote:Richard Wright or Francis Jeffers for us, I wouldn't regard Reyes as a total flop compared to these two, especially Jeffers.
I never had any expectations from Jeffers at all anyway, was always curious as to why we bought him. He was never going to displace Henry Bergkamp Kanu and Wiltord. Reyes was meant to be the next big thing, all the big clubs around europe were scrambling after him. The hype around Reyes was totally different to when we signed Jeffers or Richard Wright in my opinion.
The thing that was the real burden for Wright was the large price tag (8 mil wasn't it?), just don't think he was able to cope with the pressure, but who knows, had we been more patient then yeah, I agree, he could probably still have been our number one now! Trouble was we were looking for an instant fix which never happened.Rocky Number Seven wrote:I wouldnt consider Wright as a total flop - i just dont think he was patient enough. There is no way I will agree that reyes was a flop cos firstly most of his transfer fee was conditional which we never ended up paying but secondly reyes would have been a star if it werent for henry. Th bullied reyes from the start and eventually forced him out the door and that is an opinion that a large number of Gooners share. I said last summer that I would have taken him back and 12 months on with us still having problems on the left wing I would still like to see him rejoin us and I believe that much like anelka he will have discovered that leaving us wasnt the best move he ever made and the fact that he is still young enough it is a mistake that he can rectify

I dont want to get into an argument about Reyes but I dont agree having him back at all. Ever since he signed he was trying to get his move to Real Madrid, when he finally got it on loan he flopped there too. Then we sold him to A.Madrid and didnt score a goal for them all season. He wasnt even in the Euro 2008 Spain Squad. Five years ago he was supposed to be THE outstanding talent in Spanish football. If ever somebody didnt fulfill his potential at Arsenal it was him. If he had of fulfilled it then Sevilla would have got the full £24m that was reported when we first signed him.
