usual thread starter… the board have strung fans along with the line that wenger can buy who he wants. However, that’s a debate I won’t go into here. All I will say is that even after the debt repayments, the club is making more profit than they did at Highbury – something like double the profit.
That situation will improve once the flats at Highbury Square are sold off, improve even more when the Nike kit deal expires in 2011 and improve even more in 2015 when the Emirates shirt sponsorship deal expires.
Until then, Wenger does have money to spend, without needing to sell players to do it. What he refuses to do is pay players the kind of sums Chelsea do. It is also worth noting that Spurs – who are supposedly about to overtake us around this time every year – cannot afford to pay any of their players more than £40k a week. So while they do spend in the transfer market, they ultimately buy players the ‘big four’ are not interested in.
Wenger will buy two more players before September 1st, that’s my belief. Three if Adebayor goes. I can see a lot of unhappy fans at Arsenal, but no crisis. The only murky thing on the horizon is the prospect of the return of David Dein, murky due to the background of his new associates. And once Kroenke is confirmed as a director, that should ensure the chances of that are minimized.

Spot on Ed. Arsenal were always going to be hard pressed financially until the FULL new stadium gameplan was played out. The full gameplan includes Highbury Square. Once that's done and dusted I expect us to move forward on the purchasing and wages front. By which time, with luck, Theo, Aaron and Jack will have moved into the Megastar wages bracket that has so few AFC players in it right now. That situation will improve once the flats at Highbury Square are sold off, improve even more when the Nike kit deal expires in 2011 and improve even more in 2015 when the Emirates shirt sponsorship deal expires.

if we had money im sure we would spend it as no-one can overlook we are weakened in squad while Chelsea and Liverpool are both stengthened on last season. As our closest rivals to united next season does look like a murky one. it could prove to be one of the most crucial seasons to Wenger's reputation as the one who 'knows'. Mess next season up and the finger can cleary be pointed to this transfer window and Wengers lack of activity.
id like to have a really good go at the FA cup next seaon!
