Fans wanting Kroenke a knee-jerk reaction (1/5)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Fans wanting Kroenke a knee-jerk reaction (1/5)

Post by gooner.ed »

usual thread starter... think we'd all like to know stan's intentions. at present the board is holding firm, but i think if they are to remain in control, some fresh blood needs to be appointed at boardroom level. most of the board are around retirement age, so should get some 21st century expertise in to run the business if they are planning to hang onto their shares. i'm available and waiting the call...

I think this is a very sensible article.

Kroenke didn't get to where he is today without being a very hard nosed business man.

What reason do we have to believe that he would put vast amounts of money into the transfer budget - on top of a very heavy investment to buy the club - simply in the hope that future success on the field might follow and that this would lead to increased income?

Just because all of us, if we had his kind of money, would be happy to sink it in the club doesn't mean that he feels the same.

Much more likely is that he has spotted that the club is playing to a full (and brand new) stadium, selling lots of merchandise and getting by with a team assembled on the cheap.

He also knows that in three years a huge chunk on money will be coming the club's way when the redeveloped Highbury flats are sold off. So he could just sit tight and wait for the cash to come his way.

Or, as the article suggests, he could copy the Glazer model and maximise income by putting up ticket prices.

I'm not automatically anti takeover. Nor do I have any animus towards Kroenke. I'd be interested to know what he has to say.

What I am concerned about is that some people seem to regard him as a fairy godmother who will magically solve all of our problems. The world of buusiness isn't like that!

I'm with those who are sceptical but open-minded about Kroenke, or any other buyer for that matter.

It might be boring but I'm even against somebody like Abramovic who clearly doesn't look at Chavski as a commercial proposition.

I want Arsenal to win everything in sight because we've got a better team than anybody else. Not cos we've got shed-loads more cash.

I loathed the Liverpool side that dominated Europe in the late 1970s/early 1980s. I had a great deal of respect for them though. They had the best team and manager. Talk to anybody who knows their football anywhere in Europe. They'll put that side up there with the great Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Milan teams that created European dynasties.

They did it against both domestic and foreign opposition who had lots more money than them.

Let's not get carried away with money. It isn't at though anybody like Kroenke is going to look at Arsenal as a charity case.

All that said, the current boardroom does need some new blood. We could also do with a short-term cash injection to cover the gap left by early payments from the Emirates and Nike deals which were front-loaded to help pay for the Grove.

This should be equity (new shares) not debt however, which we've got enough of already. And the new shares should be sold to fans who care about the club.

We should also listen carefully to what Stan Kroenke's got to say. It would be both rude and foolish not to.

Excellent article.

I was one of those who had the knee jerk reaction, smelt the money & got greedy. Watched the Fiszman interview on ATVO & can see his point re-what have we seen so far from Liverpool & Utd. Nothing from the 1st & a 14% price rise for the 2nd - & I'd forgotten about Villa. hardly set the world alight, and that's with the manager everyone but the FA wanted for the England job!

So I've come to the conclusion that the board are right to speak to him - but also right not to roll over for the 1st bloke to come calling with a wedge of cash.

That said, I wonder if Abramovitch has a younger brother....?

I don't know if Abramovich has a younger brother but hasn't Mrs Abramovich just walked away with a massive divorce settlement?

What better way to get her own back on her ex than investing the money into one of his team's rivals?
