Five Arsenal failings that have to be addressed (11/5)

Post by gooner.ed »

usual thread starter... all seems so simple doesn't it? still, getting the team to change their ways - can that happen over the course of a summer? god, i hope so. way too much frustration this season. could do with a change from that thanks very much.

One big suggestion to Arsene Wenger - can we please find a way to turn a corner into a goalscoring opportunity?

And seeing that we have a few players who are 6ft or thereabouts why not?

This side may play better football than George Graham's, but GG would not have let so many corners go to waste. Surely the ability to score from the odd corner would have added another 10 goals to our tally over the season, goals that would have come in games such as Everton home and away, Villa at home, Sheffield United away, West Ham home and away, Chav$ki home and away. Basically it would have added points and pushed us a bit further up into contention surely?

In the Cups against PSV at home, Blackburn home and away, Notlob at home, would have got us through a few rounds and spared us replays that added to the strain this season.

Come on Arsene, turn that CORNER......into a goal scoring opportunity

There are quite a lot of weaknesses that Arsene Wenger needs to address and rectify if Arsenal are to challenge seriously for honours next season.

Fortunately they are all correctible as a lot of the changes needed involve a change of attitude or better coaching and organisation on the pitch rather than radical surgery in the personnel.

These are the following in order of importance:
- Tighten up the defence.
- Buy two experienced players
- Adopt the 4 5 1 formation
- Learn how to break up packed defences
- kill teams off when on top
- Learn how to win ugly
- Hit the ground running
Lastly the Board need to manage the impending takeover bid correctly

one of my few criticisms of wenger is his insistance on overloading players into midfield positions. Look at the amount of attacking players lobbed into midfield positions at some point or another. Wiltord, Reyes, Baptista, Van Persie at one point, Walcott. I get the distinct impression that Hnery is more adament on a lone striker policy which is why Wenger has dropped many strikers into midfield before. I for one would like to see an offloading of some of our midfielders.

Hleb: Great at holding the ball but his serious lack of vision and inability to complete passes has damaged us in midfield this season and i believe hes had long enough to show us what he can do OUT.

Freddie: It hurts to say cause I love Freddie too pieces and he has shown great improvement recently but hes losing that extra yard of pace which made him so lethal and at best hes got another couple of good seasons of football left in him and im not so sure they can be played at the highest level that Arsenal needs. OUT.

Baptista: Simply put send him back. The man has the first touch of Heather Mills in a 100m butterfly stroke. He tries to play a flair style of game when his apprent strength would be his size. He couldnt out muscle russel brand for gods sake. OUT.

Reyes: Get what ya can and shift him as far as im concerned. A damn good player when he wants to be but unfortunately consistency is key so hes gotta go

Flamini: Unless hes willing to play left back again where in my opinion he absolutely excelled then its time for him to leave. Gilberto is the main holding midfielder and even when he leaves I think Diaby will take up that role very nicely. tbh Flamini played at left back for us against Fulham at Craven Cottage and we all know how that game turned out so i think it may be time to push him out. Sad but im sure Flamini will make an excellent aquisition for alot of clubs. OUT

Aliadiere: Im actually a big fan but even I have to admit his lack of killer instinct in front of goal is awful. The header he buried into the ground against Villa away was just a sample of what Aliadiere can churn out when he doesn't show the strength and belief. Let Boro have him and be done with it. OUT

Alex Song: OUT (I refuse to accept this guy, you can call me a crap supporter but Song has got nothing to even show hes capable of playing in the top league. His spell at Charlton: Everyones saying how great he is for them well he can stay there as far as im concerned. PLaying great football at Charlton and then Arsenal is on totally different levels. Song would be a great championship player. Thats all im giving him)

Ok so thats quite a clearout but the fact is you could get all the money from that exchange and with the added budget we could at least buy two experienced and high class midfielders. Weve got Silva, Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky. Why have such an overflowing list of midfielders. I think its costing the team, not helping them.
