SO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THEN...

Post by xDAVEYx »

who do YOU fancy in the groups?

for the best group in order for us to progress i reckon the teams we want to draw are:

PSV
Basel
BATE borisov

for the away trips though:

Bayern
Zenit/Celtic/Marseille
Fenerbahce/Spartak/Fiorentina

i think one of the teams i have to visit before i die is fenerbahce, the russians because both those cities are awsome, celtic cos its not far away from uni, munich because the allianz arena is amazing looking and fiorentina because i have a soft spot for the viola...

opinions?

Just so people know, here are the 4 pots.....

Pot 1

Manchester United
Chelsea
Liverpool
FC Barcelona
ARSENAL
Olympique Lyonnais
Internazionale
Real Madrid

Pot 2

FC Bayern München
PSV Eindhoven
Villarreal
AS Roma
FC Porto
Werder Bremen
Sporting Lisbon
Juventus

Pot 3

Marseille
Zenit St. Petersburg
Steaua Bucureşti
Panathinaikos
Bordeaux
Celtic FC
FC Basel
Fenerbahçe

Pot 4

Shakhtar Donetsk
Fiorentina
Atlético de Madrid
Dynamo Kyiv
CFR 1907 Cluj
Aalborg
Anorthosis Famagusta
FC BATE Borisov

I assume we will be drawn into a group with 1 team from pots 2, 3, and 4.

Easiest group: Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon, Basel, Famegusta.

Group of Death: Arsenal, Bayern Munich or Juve, Zenit or Celtic, Atletico Madrid.

Some interesting teams in the draw this year, and plenty of possibilities of facing a decent team or 2. Even pot 4 has a few dangerous teams... Fiorentina, Atletico, Shaktar, and Dynamo Kiev :? BE AFRAID...BE VERY AFRAID.

yup, that's what it will be. You can't be drawn against someone from your own country either so if say Lyon got drawn against Bordeaux, it would be re-drawn.

The draw I'd like (for us to have a good chance of qualifying) would be:
Arsenal, PSV, Basel, Aalborg

A good draw for trips:
Arsenal, Werder Bremen, Steaua Bucharest, BATE Borisov

I've been to a few of the places before -
BAYERN - (the old stadium tho') - didn't like Munich at all, was boring. We did have heavy snow whilst we were there though - we lost 3-1
AS ROMA - Fantastic city, really enjoyed it, especially as we won 3-0!
JUVENTUS - Went to the Delle Alpi, had loads of hassle from the Italian police, didn't enjoy it that much, drew 0-0
CELTIC - Not to see Arsenal, but I like Glasgow, great atmosphere too.
DYNAMO KIEV - Oh my god, fantastic place, I have never seen so many stunningly beautiful women in my life! Drink was dirt cheap as well, had a great day but we got stuffed 3-0 in the pouring rain. Lost my voice totally from singing in the pub non-stop before the game!

TeeCee is spot on - Great place, cheap beer, cheap vodka and stunning women. 85000 attendance and rain to make you feel like home.

Half of that 4th pot look a piece of piss and half looks decidedly dangerous so I guess all top seeds will be looking for the same thing.

Munich in late September to coincide with Oktoberfest might be a giggle. 8)

Not going to predict as you get what you get and we should be strong enough to get through the first group whatever.

Do agree though there are some very strong teams in group 4!

Yep there are some nice trips there alright for the boys and hope to have one or two myself!

I would like to see us play Celtic. No particular reason, just would be good to see.

I hope that we avoid Bayern Munich though. Very scary prospect there.

And is it just me or is this the first year that there have been a number of teams with such potential to do us damage in pot 4? There are some in their more dangerous than Pot 3! Especially when you factor in travelling to places like Russia.

Tell you what, thats possibly one of the strongest CL lineups we've had in years! Going to be a hell of a competition this season.

Christ this is the first time I have properly looked at the potential groups. It does seem the potential for a group of death is enormous. I think I am taking up religion for the afternoon  and I'm going to start praying. :bowing21:
