Baptista – It had to be you (14/5)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Baptista – It had to be you (14/5)

Post by gooner.ed »

usual thread starter... when we got the penalty at fratton park and i saw the number 9 shirt step up... you know the rest. if ever arsene needed a hint from above that there can be absolutely no contemplation of keeoing this clown, this had to be it. it was almost comical. almost. :x

Kranjcar was indeed in an offside position when the original shot was made thus, we suppose, was deemed to be interfering with play. Even if the ball eventually came to him off an Arsenal player!

"If the team can finish 21 points off the champions playing such poor football, imagine what they would be capable of if they got some confidence and put a run together."

I must be watching a different team to everyone else on this increasingly miserable and negative site.

I saw a young team play, more often than not, great football without getting the goals their football deserved. Clearly there was a problem with our finishing but how much of a surprise is that given we spent most of the season with our best finishers on the sidelines.

I saw 42 games this year. Most of them I really enjoyed. Funnily enough, most of the ones I didn't enjoy were at Home, surrounded by whingers who wouldn't know good football if it smacked them in the face with a wet fish.

Most of our crowd don't deserve the football we play. Bring back George Graham and let them have what they want.

I wasn't at Fratton but I can't stop wondering why one of our team didn't get the ball off Baptista and tell him he couldn't take the pen because he doesn't know where the goal is. Fabregas, Toure, Clichy or Eboue. NOT Hleb. Still, it's too late now but hopefully it was Baptista's signing off piece.

I wasn't at Fratton Park but I couldn't face seeing that penalty miss on MOTD, especially when I heard Arsene's post-match 'same as usual' comments. Baptista must go - his ball control is non-existent and totally unsuited to our quick-passing style. Even the immature Jose Antonio would be a better bet. Release the Beast - back to Madrid!

He kinda pushed off Cesc to take the penalty himself didnt he? I cant believe Arsene once looked to buy him. He is not good enough to play in any top team in any league in Europe.

It was a well struck penalty and the 'Keeper did well. It was a good save at a difficult height. The Beast didn't scuff it, stick it over the bar or fall over so lay off. Fair play to calamity he guessed right and made a god save.

Didnt he miss all three penalties he had taken this season? One against Bolton, one against Liverpool in the Carling Cup and this one? It wasnt at the corner, he didnt keep it low, he just banged it at not an impossible height for the goalkeeper.
