BOXING: MOSLEY v MAYORGA

Post by QuartzGooner »

Taking my mind away from today's result, a little boxing diversion.

"Sugar" Shane Mosley fights Ricardo Mayorga tonight.

I go for a Mosley win, TKO in 9th round.

He is too fast for Mayorga, has better lateral movement and better a defence.

Mayorga is too much of a scrapper to trouble a skilled fighter like Mosley (but then again they did say that before Mayorga beat skilled boxer Vernon Forrest!)

They are both past their best these days...but Mosley was one of the best boxers of the last 25 years.

Mayorga is best known for outrageous behaviour at press conferences, likeinsulting the other boxer's mother and rubbing his crotch...and smoking cigars in the ring!

He has a really scrappy style...but he draws crowds because he has a big punch.

Thing with Boxing is, it has fallen in profile since the early - mid eighties.

Mixed Martial Arts is taking some of it's fans, so has Wrestling, and it has not been helped by match fixing allegations, dodgy judging decisions and drugs allegations.

To Boxing's credit...there have been some really good matchups over the last two years.

The big promoters know that unless they do that, the sport will end up a minority sport for all but the very occasional fight.

Possibly the most remarkable finish in Boxing history!

Mayorga was ahead on points, Mosley was unexpectedly sluggish all fight.

Last round, Mosley knocks down Mayorga with 20 seconds to go.

Mayorga gets up, fight continues 8 seconds to go.

Mosley knocks Mayorga down again, and referee stops fight with 1 second left!

I remember Taylor being stopped vs Chavez with 2 seconds left, never thought I would see a tighter finish than that.
