Has Wenger's idea of a total football based on youth players failed?

Is it too soon to judge the experiment either way?
Does Tuesdays 6-0 win over Sheff Utd show that we are just a season away from putting the final touches to a football masterpiece with a fantastic crop of young players on the edge of the squad?
If so, who will take up the mantle in Central Defence and Central Defensive Midfield that seems to be our weakness?
I think we need to buy for central midfield in January, though I have hopes for Coquelin there in the longer term. Between Djourou and Nordveit we may just have the answer in defence...but it will take until the 2010 - 2011 season for Wenger's plan to reach completion.

The failure against Hull was one of the strikers - van Persie does not play that well as a second striker - he plays well for Holland wide right but Wenger appears incapable of playing him there. With RvP wide right and Theo wide left and either Vela or Eduardo playing with either Bendtner or Adebayor we would have an awesome front line. Playing Eboue is tacit acknowledgement that we are short a defensive midfielder but unfortunately on a day like that he is neither any good defensively or offensively. I expect Gallas to pick up a 'long term injury' if his performance doesn't improve - it will be the only way that Wenger can drop his captain. If he was not the captain it is certain sure he would've been dropped- just look at Lehmann last year. Djourou must be given his chance otherwise he should be sold - there is no point having him here if he is not allowed a chance when a more senior player is off form. Personally I would prefer it if Wenger simply dropped Gallas and sent a message to the whole squad that it doesn't matter who you are in this team, two substandard performances in a row gets you dropped. Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case with Wenger and I think one of the major reasons we have under achieved over the last few seasons. There needs to be some steel behind the 'family atmosphere' in the club. That's one of the main differences between Wenger and Fergie - the fear factor seems to be missing with us.
Yes Hull played well and scored one great goal and one opportunistic goal (although well taken) but I watched that match and even only once we were behind we created at least four top quality chances to score and numerous other possibilities which particularly RvP and Adebayor didn't take. Yes Gallas was unlucky to hit the bar and yes what great save from Fabregas but it should have never got to that point. RvP and Adebyor were shocking first half - the Hull tempo dropped after 20 minutes and we should have capitalised.
Is it a failure of 'Wengerism'? No, it's the same old failings - too loyal to certain players and a lack of vision with substitutions. I have never considered Wenger to be a tactical genius, master of pyschology yes. Porto becomes a massive game for us.

one defeat does not change a thing
Here’s a simple fact - we’re two points behind the leaders, with a goal difference that is only one worse than the leaders.
Here’s another fact - our children’s team looked a dream and a half on Tuesday.
Or another fact - even if Utd win their game in hand we are still above them in the league.
Or another - when Utd screwed up earlier this season - or indeed at the start of last season - I don’t recall anyone saying, “that’s it, all over, that’s the end, Man U are dead in the water…â€

This is the end I tell you, the end, THE FUCKING END!!!!
Sign players, throw money around, sack the manager, sacrifice a Junior Gunner on the pitch in honour of world superstar Carlos Ronaldildho in order to impress him enough to want to join us.
SOMEONE DO SOMETHING NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!

Wengerism
I wouldn't want anyone to think I am calling for Arsene to be sacked - I wouldn't him to go anywhere - more that I think he has to accept that he needs to be willing to compromise occasionally.
Up to 2005 (ish) he had no problem spending big money when required, (perhaps the experience of Francis Jeffers and Richard Wright had more of an impact than we imagined).
Like most of us, I just wish he'd admit he was wrong every now and again and augment what is potentially a fantastic team with a few established players who can push us on and avoid conceding stupid goals and unnecessary defeats.
Here's hoping for a happier feeling this time tomorrow
