Can you imagine the outrage on this forum if we signed players of an unknown quantity like mahrez and konte for relatively small amounts? Wenger would've got slaughtered, as would the players, much like the abuse given to Elneny being an Egyptian farmer etc...g88ner wrote:Redarmy wrote:Wenger is very aware of all these players, don't worry about that
I agree that Wenger will be aware of most of these players but surely it's up to the scouts to hammer it home how good these players are. Mahrez signed for <£1m, Kante was picked up for £6m, Payet £7m, Aubameyang around £11mso money isn't the problem. It's realising how good they are as Arsenal are a hugely attractive club to sign for.
Even last summer Wenger said we have the money but it's not easy finding better players that we already have. Payet was playing at Marseille and Wenger admitted he'd been following Kante for years, so why did he choose to stick with Rosicky, Flamini, Arteta, etc. instead of sign these players? - then of course there's Martial; a player Wenger admitted he'd been following but wasn't aware he was for sale
I think our failures are so much bigger than one man. We appear to be dysfunctional from top to toe
He probably did know them but just didn't think they were good enough at the time. One season wonders and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. How good were they last season? Not very good at all.
