He fails to realise 2009 was 7 years ago, and everyone knew it was a time of limited expectations.
He has told a huge lie, its in his biography that during that 5 years 2004-09 the club said to him they needed to maintain league status, he promised them to stay in the top 4.
I don't think anyone expected us to win a title during that period, but its what has happened since the debt became manageable that's the issue.
Of course he will gloss over the past 6-7 years.

I'd love to have seen Wenger try and impose Eboue, Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner et. al on Real Madrid. Watching Ronaldo lose the plot at all those players would have been hilarious.

At the risk of dividing the anti-Wenger consensus over politics, I would suggest that there is a strong analogy with the EU referendum debate.

Remain are running a campaign based purely on fear of change , ie if we leave things could well get worse

Leave are saying ok we recognise if we change things may be a little uncertain initially, but by making the leap of faith we will be much stronger and better off in the long run.
