Europa League Cup Final
Re: Europa League Cup Final
3 successive European titles for Sevilla. Only the fourth team to win the same European trophy three years in a row (Real Madrid, Ajax and Bayern did it with the European Cup). An amazing achievement and a win over Liverpool into the bargain too.

Re: Europa League Cup Final
I'm sure it wasn't Liverpool fans fighting the other night then. It must have been chelsea and Leeds fans that snuck over for a fight. Damn. I can't believe we were wrongly blaming those Liverpool fans - again!storrmin571 wrote:Independent Comments![]()

No, an Everton-supporting Liverpool City Councillor heard some Chelsea fans on the ferry that they were going to the game looking for a fight. He told LFC Chairman John Smith, who having been to numerous away games with the club in Europe and having seen little trouble, extrapolated this story in shock and disbelief to some journalists. It may have been partly true, but it was ultimately an exaggeration. The vast majority of LFC fans accept that a significant proportion of the blame for Heysel resides with a couple of hundred of their own fans - and 29 of them went to jail.
This was clearly a case of Sevilla fans attacking some (probably mouthy) LFC fans who had got tickets in the Sevilla end.

My plastic Liverpool supporting neighbour always goes on about the Chelsea fans and the Cockneys that caused the Heysel tragedy.. He invariably adds in "there was probably a few Gooners involved as well" ..DB10GOONER wrote:I'm sure it wasn't Liverpool fans fighting the other night then. And on the plus side it might give van Gaal another season.

Apparently not - United following up the classy nature of the Moyes sacking by leaking the Mourinho news within an hour or two of lifting the FA Cup. Whereas the stalls around their ground have been selling Mourinho scarves for months - certainly since February when I was there at least.northbank123 wrote:Two outta three ain't bad.SteveO 35 wrote:Following the Spuds collapse, now this.....good old Sevilla. Mourinho won't let them flounder like they have now but the guy is a bit of a busted flush and if the results aren't there they won't have any patience for his turgid football. That said he'll have a near blank chequebook and won't have the worry of fatigue from CL football so it's a great platform to exceed the rock bottom expectations that Dumb and Dumber have left there.

So, a factually inaccurate story, given to the media which then gets printed. Hmm, don't seen the scousers up in arms about this or calling for a boycott? Some might call that a little bit hypocritical and evidence of a scouse-inspired Heysel media-whitewash. It's interesting to note that they've never demand the truth from the papers about this one, isn't it?DB10GOONER wrote:I'm sure it wasn't Liverpool fans fighting the other night then.
