Heysel and Liverpool fcuk'd the English game for 5 years but Everton probably came of worst of all .Bradywasking wrote:You can not mention Heysel without reference to "those Cockney accents on the ferry" ..
Also watched it unfold live on TV..Remember thinking at the time that football was fucked..I thought it would never recover from that night..It did recover but along with Hillsborough it changed football forever.. The measures taken after the tragedies were necessary but in ways they were exploited by greedy clubs..
Hard to believe that the day after the final some Liverpool fans were moaning that the foul that led to the ultimately winning penalty was committed outside the area..That was the first denial of Heysel by them..
Its largely forgotten now but Everton played in Rotterdam and won the Cup winners cup against Rapid V. without any trouble .
They like all English clubs were booted from Europe which I found to be legally and morally unjustified given that the whole of europe was a football hooligan playground with Italian Dutch and German having very active but less publicised scenes.,
Liverpool were to receive a further 3 years after the 5 year ban. Liverpool appealed and got let back in after serving only 1 of the 3 extra years in the ban and promptly booted out Everton from european qualification ,they were not amused !

Believe me the Bluenoses have not forgotten or forgiven them for it at all. Whenever a Red starts taking the piss about the Blues lack of success they don't hesitate to bring up Heysel and the 5 year ban. Bitter Blues indeed.Herd wrote:Heysel and Liverpool fcuk'd the English game for 5 years but Everton probably came of worst of all .Bradywasking wrote:You can not mention Heysel without reference to "those Cockney accents on the ferry" ..

Bitterness Bitterness the only thing the Blues possess !Believe me the Bluenoses have not forgotten or forgiven them for it at all. Whenever a Red starts taking the piss about the Blues lack of success they don't hesitate to bring up Heysel and the 5 year ban. Bitter Blues indeed.
