The pet Project Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Diaby will get a mention somewhere but you could see he had talent before he got effectively put out of the game by a soon to be call center worker from Sunderland but he has to also go down as a pet project.

Jermaine Pennant record transfer fee at the time £2m for a 15 year old trainee.

Also every time we won in the league cup (whatever the sponsor) the goalscorer would be hyped Arturo Lupoli our Italian fox in the box........ :rubchin:

So we all agree that Eisfeld could'a been a contender? :barscarf:

What the fuck is happening with Bielik? Is he another duff signing then? The worst is how they'd be the only signings in the January window and we'd never see them play.

Spot on. Out youth team has been loaded with shite foreign kids since year zero (In oldspeak, that's 1996). Our local lads end up in the fucking Ryman League. Only the lucky ones even make it to Championship level.

It's fucking scandalous how we have thrown the League Cup all these years, thanks to this self-aggrandizing youth shite. We've only won that fucker twice. Any trophy is a good trophy to win - Let's face it, we can't win the big ones with the current regime.

Have to agree. There have been many discussions on here about this and I still say it comes down to grass roots football in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales being managed badly. There are just very few top quality young players coming through in these isles. And it will be that way until the likes of the FA change how kids are coached and how they play the game at a young age. Foreign kids (and by knock on effect the adult players too) tend in general to be better technical players because they don't play competitive games on adult sized pitches at the age of 6 - they learn and perfect their technique.

I remember my brother who is a Southend United season ticket saying Sanchez Watt was shite when they had him on loan and that was league 2.

Where are Gnabry and Zelalem? Aren't those two from our youth system and highly regarded as top prospects?

Gnabry had a cruciate opposition and was out all last season ( he will be like a new signing  )
Zalelem was on loan to Rangers in Scotland all last season - lots of substitute appearances, but think he did ok, would like to think it will have toughened him up quite a bit as although very skilfully, he looked skinny & lightweight to me.

For me, two that looked good initially but were soon two of the worst were Song and Denilson - the fact they were outed as bang average to shit within a season by most observers but had their contracts extended for years (with pay rises) was criminal. :x

I liked Frimpong until I saw him play for the first team. He looked good in the youth and reserve games at Underhill but has disappeared since leaving Bradford. Lansbury was another who never quite trained on but is doing well at Forest. Murphy and Shea are knocking around the lower leagues and JET is doing well further down the league. Early promise seldom lives up to expectation.
