I saw about 70 mins of the game. We were clearly the better team and I felt confident, despite the odd brain fade from the players.

In Reine-Adelaide and Niles-Maitland, we've clearly got some talented players coming through (hopefully!), but I also saw signs of our malaise.
Too often they were sloppy in possession and, when they lost the ball, they didn't exactly bust a gut to win it back. They seemed to think that they were superior to the opposition and would stroll to victory. Just like the 1st team did against Boro.

I suspect too rich, too pampered, too soon in their careers.

Won't be surprised if we get Liverpool in the next round. Glad we won though.

Nice to be in the last 8 again. Didn't think much of Lucas tonight ?. What do we think ?. Hope he's not too badly injured though. I agree that we looked a bit too cocky just expecting to turn up an stroll around for yet another win.
Leeds at home in the next round would bring back some old memories for me !. Darts thrown at a certain Arsenal keeper by away fans !. Da good old days. :barscarf: :barscarf:

The league cup is of no real interest to us even in a final !

And no interest to any club anymore, and I'm not just talking about premier league clubs - last night we made 10 changes whilst reading made 5  On one hand I like the competition cos it USED to allow us see the future potential stars (back when we had a load of potential coming through :( ), but now it has degenerated into a competition that is no better than the Leyland daf cup used to be

In my opinion the future of this competition is bleak - if it was agreed from the start that the premier league clubs would enter their u-23's into it then it might be worth persevering with, but the fact that football leagues are even rotating in these games now suggests that this competition is fcuked and should possibly be scrapped :(

couldn't agree more Augie.
to be fair to the club the matches are now priced accordingly. I went last night and paid £10 - better value than I would have got if I had gone to the Middlesbrough game for example.

I can also understand why clubs like ourselves who are involved in a European competition would use more reserves than other clubs.
However what surprised me last night was why Liverpool made so many changes? There is a trophy at stake here and clubs don't seem to acknowledge this.

If finishing higher in the Premier League becomes more important than winning a cup then there is something very wrong with modern football.

I watched a few minutes at the start of that game and in that time a victims player made an absolute balls of a good chance - what did klopp do when he missed it ? Yes he just sat back and laughed  If it is just seen as a bit of fun, then why bother with the competition at all ?

The prize money of about £500,000 per place (maybe even higher now) dictates that an extra place or two in the league is worth more than winning the littlewoods / carling / rumberlows / league cup.

Clubs could not give a shit about the fans opinions or the day out at Wembley etc.

well that League Cup draw just made a decision easier for me.
do I pay £80+ to watch Paris St Germain in what is likely to be a dead rubber match in a competition that we haven't got a hope of winning OR wait a week and pay £10 to watch Southampton in a cup quarter final match in a competition we DO have a hope of winning? Hmm :rubchin: :D

the trouble is of course that because the club are charging category A prices for the "prestigious" clash with Paris that they will put out the first team for that match and play the reserves v Southampton...

Investigation into allegations against a small number of individuals

Reading Football Club were made aware of an isolated but allegedly extreme incident of foul and abusive behaviour from a small number of individuals who were amongst the away supporters at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Those in question were ejected from Arsenal’s stadium during the course of our EFL Cup tie against the Gunners and the club have worked closely with Arsenal Football Club and Thames Valley Police to identify those accused of serious allegations.

Each of the individuals have been informed by Reading Football Club that their Season Tickets at Madejski Stadium have been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. During the course of this investigation, these individuals will not be welcome at Madejski Stadium nor will they be permitted to purchase tickets to any of our away fixtures.

As the vast majority of our fans understand, behaviour of the nature which has been alleged is entirely unacceptable and not welcome in football or within our community. It is also not what this football club expects of its supporters.

Tomorrow, we welcome Nottingham Forest to Madejski Stadium and we fully expect our fans’ exemplary behavioural record to be reinforced by the conduct of true supporters of Reading Football Club at what should be another entertaining Championship encounter.

We remain immensely proud of our fans and the remarkable amount of time, energy and effort they put in to backing the manager, his coaching staff and the players both at Madejski Stadium and following our fortunes on the road. Tomorrow, we want to hear our fans back the boys and make some noise and remind everyone what supporting a football team is all about.
